I was sure it will come to that. If I'm not mistaken, the champion on a purse bid receive like 75% or so of the purse? So I guess Steiglitz wanted that to happen and I'm sure Kessler isnt happy one bit. And yes Kessler should won and have the belt, but I'm not sure he will make more money than he would have done against Bute.

The sad thing is that when Kessler broke with his old promoter a lot of us had high hopes for his future. Since the break up Mikkell took 14 months off, and fought 4 times. Twice against sub-par opposition.

I was writing up a post about seeing the same tactics his promoter has always used in another thread before I realized. Different name, same outcome.... You'd think he would have learned the first time. Maybe it really is time for him to retire. That or he is just fine with this method of doing things I guess. Can't blame Palle anymore, but I'm not going to give Kessler a free pass now that the same tactics are being used. Negotiating with Bute while secretly doing another deal in the back ground. Sound all too familiar?

Yes it does sound familiar. I'd really like to believe Kessler is one of the good guys, but I am beginning to have my doubts. He sat there at ringside during Bute/Magee and said he would beat Lucian any time and any place. How much did he know about the Stieglitz fight when he said that? I'd like to know the answer to that question.

Good point and I hadn't thought about it in those terms. Still, getting the belt off of Stieglitz is an overall positive I guess.

I'm a Kessler fan but, to be fair he should fight in Germany, since Stieglitz is the titleholder.

Stieglitz' second fight against Berrio (for the then vacant IBF belt) was broadcast on ARD because Sauerland won the purse bid. And the Hayes fight directly after that loss was on RTL (Briggs vs Ibragimov undercard). Stieglitz has boxed on just about every major TV network in Germany, that's quite an accomplishment.

This whole affair is ass backwards. Showtime should push for Bute/Kessler and Pavlik/Stieglitz. The winners fight, and the winner of that gets a crack at the S-6 winner.

The Kessler - Bute fight will happen. Kessler is just taking a calculated risk of making x amount for fighting Stiglitz + an increased purse for fighting Bute. It's like Haye who made about £15 million at heavy weight for stalling the Klitschko fight instead of €2-3 million, I even made a thread about that when no one said it was going to happen. To be honest that kind of cherry picking is done by all fighters to different extents and it can make you more money and a better legacy if done properly. I can remember several ducks which have been forgotten about after a few years. A lot of promoters will wait until the ducked fighter loses or looks bad to dismiss them or until they make a large fan base of their own. Good fights don't happen because of it sometimes but that's just how it goes.
