Style wise, this is actually a pretty good fight, Kessler's jab presents immense amounts of problems, but so would Toney's counter punching.

I'd have to think on it, I could see Kessler controlling pace... could also see Toney scoring and sparking Kessler.

    Close?

    Toney chops him up.

The workrate is more favorable in this matchup for Toney to come out with the UD than in the Calzaghe fight. Kessler's got a hell of a jab, and the key would be trying to maintain distance and staying out of Toney's grill because I could see Toney doing some major damage with counters if he can stay inside. I'll go with a Toney UD on this one, although we'll find out how good Kessler's jab really is come November.

This thread is pretty unfair to Kessler, because he might not even be in his prime yet. Right now, prime Toney decimates his ass.

No way Toney loses this fight. Not a chance.

That's right - too hard to say right now. Let's wait til we see Kessler's best before we say who would win prime for prime.

Toney would pick kessler apart all night and possibly stop him late. who the hell has kessler fought? You're comparing Andrade to one of the greatest fighters p4p of all time? :-(

    Agreed.

But Toney has lost to lesser fighters, lets not forget that.
Truth is there are certain fighters who fight a way that upsets James and when they are exceptional at it, it makes it even harder.

Absolutely. "Prime Toney" is almost an oxymoron, what you really need to say is "a young James Toney who trained correctly, and was kept miles away from the nearest BK for at least ten weeks".

A weight drained or otherwise unmotivated Toney could easily be bothered by a fighter as long and fundamentally sound as Kessler.
