If his eye holds up, I've no doubt he will fight top 10ers in 2008. Why can't you count Green? Surely he's a top 10er, and if he wins a title at 175, he'd definitely be a top 5er in that division.
Geez is that Vargas recently in your avatar, my goodness  No wonder he wanted to go up in weight to fight Mayorga
Just because he has beaten him, but you can count Kessler because he has been beaten by him and it would show a heap of heart IMO if he fought Kessler again.
Yup, Vargas is the fatty in the little pic, i cant believe Vargas is the betting fav!!! Crazy man Mayorga will KO him for sure imo.
Mayorga got beat down by Trinidad and Oscar but he will bash Vargas. You gotta love Mayorga :happy:happy
sorry guys a bum steer the pricks aren't waiting til the weekend like i asked I guess i got half right:huh :huh :-(
Well, in this interview, he makes it pretty clear he wants Green at 175 before he wants the winner of Calzaghe vs Kessler. I'll bet since Calzaghe beat Kessler, Mundine wants Green at 175 even more now :yep I believe he ****ed his eye up, but I also believe he's milking it for as long as possible - he's been granted an optional defence of his paper title by the WBA, which is usually only allowed due to medical reasons (injury such as this). He can conveniently say he isn't ready for the big guns because of his eye - it gets him out of having to face his mandatory (Kessler) and conveniently allows him to put Calzaghe off. Add the fact that he wants a Green rematch before Kessler or Calzaghe, and Calzageh is more than likely moving up to LHW, and I somehow don't think we'll see him ever fight Calzaghe. He'll call him out no doubt, but he'll be doing it knowing Calzaghe has no need for or use for him. I like his excuses for rematching Green - "too many questions" "Will he be too strong for me at the heavier weight? Will he fight better in front of his home crowd? I want to knock him out" What a crock!!! The bottom line is - if he is permanently blind in his left eye, he won't be able to pass the eyesight test and therefore won't be sanctioned to fight. There's no arguing with that, no matter how much 'it is the will of my creator' crap he spews.
muttley Is he milking it so that he doesn't have to fight the other guys or permanetly blind so he wont fight the other guys
Well, firstly, I don't believe he has or will have any permanent damage to his eye, I think his doctors know this, as does he, and he is beating it up a bit to make it sound much more serious than it actually is. I believe the public have been presented with the 'worst case scenario' that may have occurred had it not been treated immediately. Mundine seems very relaxed about it all now, compared to when it first happened, which is one reason why I believe it's been given the all clear. The fact that he keeps on saying he is determined to fight on, even if he suffers permanent damage is another reason - as I stated previously, if he is blind in 1 eye, he won't be sanctioned to fight, so the decision to fight won't be his to make. I think he's milking it for a combination of reasons - first and foremost publicity, secondly, so he can justify fighting another Argie tin can, thirdly so he can be forgiven for not chasing Calzaghe or Kessler now that they have fought. He has been claiming he wants a rematch vs Kessler since their first encounter, now that Kessler is his mandatory, he's talking about fighting Green at LHW first. As we all know, a few months in the world of boxing can change the landscape immensely - right now, I'd say Mundine is hoping Green beats Drews and gains the WBA LHW title so he can avoid Kessler - he'll use the excuse of becoming a 2 division champ as his reason for moving up to fight Green instead of staying at SMW and rematching Kessler. He also knows Calzaghe has no need to fight him either at SMW or LHW, so moving up to LHW and potentially winning a title from Green is not putting him in a position where he has to make good on his claims of wanting to fight the winner of Calzaghe vs Kessler. If Kessler also moves up to LHW, Mundine will move back down to SMW, claiming he's going to clean out the division. If Kessler stays at SMW, Mundine will move down to MW, claiming he wants to become a 3 division champ. Thing is, I don't think cherrypicking your fights across divisions (a la Floyd Mayweather) is really respected as much as actually cleaning out a division and moving into another one, but since Mundine is only worried about money and trinket bragging rights, then I can't expect any more from him.
And when it comes to getting hit:!: He is one of my fav boxers not through skill but through his toughness and balls and all attitude. He got easily outclassed(pretty much embarrassed)by Tito and ODL but he showed that he is one tough *******. I love watching the highlights of his bouts vs Forrest. He won thoses bouts by pure aggression and intimidation.. Forrest should of never lost to a fighter like Mayorga but he wet his pants straight away when he realised he would have to **** mayorga up pretty bad(and take some shots himself) to win the fights.
Theres no doubt in my mind that Mundine would rather fight Green for a new belt than defend his against Kessler. I'm sure every other boxer in the division would do the same as well, even if Kessler was still a belt holder. It's just that his "I want my redemption with Kessler" comments will now look a bit foolish.
