Interesting. It's true that Mundine is in a good position, with Joe seemingly out of the picture, Mundine will be elevated as a normal champ instead of interim crap. If Green wins, he has that option to move up and try for another title in another division. And of course he's got Kessler. As Bute probably doesn't want anything to do with Kessler at this stage.
It takes two to Tango...Lucian isn't ready to dance with Mikkel yet, so unless Mikkel becomes mandatory - he isn't ranked by the IBF - it ain't gonna happen...
Might happen in 2009, if Mundine is still around and holds a belt, if Kessler holds a belt or two, if Bute holds his belt, in a unification fight...But realistically, Kessler will go for Mundine's belt if any, so Bute will not have much of an incentive to fight Mundine...becuse Kessler will have taken the WBA belt from him...
I doubt Kessler has requested this, it has to be a wind up. What would Kessler have to gain from a rematch with Mundine? He's already beaten Mundine convincingly, there is no way Kessler would chase someone like this. Mundine would obviously like Kessler again (for the pay day only), however I doubt he'll get him. Mundine would need to lift his game against his opposition somewhat to make it happen, and I don't think Mundine can lift his game any more. Rick.
Welcome to ESB, Rick!:good I think the reason why Kessler would go for Mundine is because 1 Mundine holds a title 2 Mundine would fight Kessler, unlike Bute... 3 He has beaten Mundine before and would do so again 4 Because Mundine is a Top 3-4 fighter in the division and a win against him would mean a hell of a lot 5 because he would make good money out of that fight... 6 Kessler doesn't have so many options right now...all the top contenders are ducking him because he would beat them... in fact, I cannot think of any reason why Mikkel wouldn't want to fight Mundine...and he's lucky, because Mundine says he wants to fight him too!
Once Kessler gets his Argentinian citizenship sorted I can't see any more barriers for him to fight Mundine. He may have to sit his taxi drivers license as well.
Thanks, been lurking for a while. I tend to agree with this. I think this is one reason why he wouldn't be interested, the winner of a fight rarely chases a re-match. Yes it would, if he hadn't already beaten him in the past. It doesn't mean a lot for a fighter to chase someone who they have already beaten. I'm not so sure Kessler is as money hungry as some, though I'm aware that money talks. Somewhat true, though I still think Bute or even Lacy is what is more likely to eventuate. That obviously helps, though if it is true, it is still behind Bute, Lacy (and who else knows), so in my eyes it's not something which Kessler will try too hard to make happen, if he's trying at all. Rick.
