Exactly Pavlik is highly over rated IMO. Pretty limited guy, a puncher at best who will be exposed. Kessler would thoroughly outbox him IMO, not to mention JC.
People get like that with fighters like Pavlik. Thats why guys scoring quick knockouts and bashing people silly early in their career get the most attention and are usually labled the "hottest prospect". But history has shown us time and time again you need more than a punch to be a great fighter. The very best ever had a great package not just one tangible attribute that made them stand out. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule and to me Pavlik has kind of shown he is in a way. But ill pick fighters with great skills and good overall ability anyday over him.
I totally agree. The same reason that people were over rating Lacy. Punchers seem invincible to the casual fan, because they only look at the manner of the victory, not at how they are boxing against their opponent. I personally will never bet on a guy because he is a puncher, unless I firmly believe he also has the skills and the work rate to beat his opponent. Whilst they will always have a chance, and there can be exceptions to the rule where a puncher scores the KO to come from behind (Toney v Watson, Chavez v Taylor, half of Julian Jacksons career ect ) more often then not the guy with the greater skill base will win.
Pavlik is a more rounded boxer than Green, Mundine doesnt have the balls to fight someone like Pavlik. :deal Zuniga went 12 with Pavlik.
Geez.... you would think a young fighter who beats the current undefeated and undisputed middleweight champion by brutal KO would get more cred.
Taylor was pretty flawed, in a weak division, and Pavlik almost got KTFO, was behind on points and was not that impressive IMO. I give credit for the win for sure, but he is no world beater.
Would love to see this fight happen. Very close fight, winnable for Mundine though, and also gives him an opportunity to grab another belt.
Even in those examples MSTR you are talking about very good fighters who could ALSO punch coming from behind. One of my favourite things about this sport is that the underdog is only ever one punch away from a victory but I found once I got more into boxing and watching more fights, you could usually pick a fight using logic and analysing all the factors.
Zuniga went 9 with Pav, Marc. It was pretty one sided after the first few rounds, I dont think Pavlik was made to work outside his comfort zone to be honest. But I dont doubt there is little evidence to support my concerns, Pavlik seems to outlast everyone, and he has been in there with some hard dude. Its just more an unknown thing.
Mundine is much better defensively than Taylor is, and his chin isn't as terrible as some seem to think it is. I'd tip Mundine against Pavlik if they were ever to fight. It would probably be a boring fight though, a typical cat and mouse affair. Pavlik could snatch a decision though if he goes all out in the later rounds and Mundine loses them due to inactivity. If Mundine were to lose, I'd say it'd probably be from inactivity rather than get brutally knocked out. Mundine UD by 3 or 4 points.
Agree with that Peckserhead. Pavlik is scary, I think that would be the reason Mundine would lose it, by doing enough not to get knocked out but not to win.
