Kessler feared he had suffered a braindamage coz he had doublevision for more than 6 months. Now it turns out that its a problem with one of the muscles in the eye....the exact same injurie that ended Mickey Wards career...and he still has double vision to this day. If Mikkels problem dissapears ...should he then risc his health going into the ring again ??? After 6 months of seeing double I dont think I would want to step into a ring again...and I also dont think Mikkel should be allowed to box again, when there is a chance of this problem becomming a permanent one. Its with great saddness for me coz I have always enjoyed it when Mikkel fought. Up to the Ward fight Mikkel and Ward had a mutual sparring partner...is it possible that he told Ward about Mikkels problem with the eye...that would certainly explain why Ward used all those nasty headbutts ? Well Ward doesnt win much points for that in my book if thats true.
Many fighters are always tempted by the glory of the ring... If he really retires he will come back after sufficient rest!!
I dont think it was intentional by Ward, a souphpaw trying to get inside on an orthodox fighter, head collisions happen.
Gutted for him if true. He is a real warrior and one of the most likable guys in the game. There is virtually nobody who dislikes the guy.
I suspect that the injury might be worst than they told us. Sometimes people can be in denial and maybe that is the case. Hopefully the doctor is giving him the right advise. I don't know if it will heal and be right for him to fight, but he might fight the way it is?
When ever I hear about an eye injury the last thought in my mind is "how soon before he can fight again", because eye injuries are career enders. I don't expect Kessler to return to Boxing in any meaningful fashion, at least, he shouldn't. have to give Kessler props...eye all messed up and he STILL beat Froch! Still, I have too much respect for him, I wouldn't want him to get any more hurt especially now that guys will know where his 'weak-spot' is.
Will be very sad if true. Well at least we know he went out on a full out war which ended up winning a World title one last time (hopefully not the last).
Kessler shouldn't come back, after the Froch fight he looked like he had been hit by a truck. If he returns, he is only going to be in more tough fights and will the risk the health of his eye even more. If he was a slick boxer then I would welcome a comeback, but he is a guy who likes to fight, and it's not worth risking tour vision just for boxing.
If Ward knew about Kesslers eye problems and tried to make to make it worse by headbutting, he really is a *******! But i doubt he knew anything.
You seem to have misread his post, Pimp. He's not blaming it all on Ward, only suggesting that it may have been exacerbated as a strategy as there was a conflict of interest with the common sparring partner and that does leave the door open to stuff like that.
