need to see kessler bounce back. he should have been more active after the calzaghe bout i just hopes it doesn't cost him another loss.
This can only be good news for Kessler and his fans. His preparation for Ward was TERRIBLE. Whether it's Kessler's fault, his trainer's fault, or his management's fault...either way, he and his team cannot do much worse than they did against Ward. After arriving in California, Kessler had to seek out local sparring partners at what I would call the last second. I was shocked to hear by word of mouth that his people were calling around to local gyms after arriving. It was surprising that he did not have highly skilled sparring partners travelling with him. On top of that, he didn't even spar any southpaws in preparation for Ward. Even worse, I heard that he does not like to spar more than 6 rounds at a time (Ward spars 12, while rotating 3 or 4 guys over the course of 12). Before the Ward fight, I was criticized for criticizing Kessler's team. Looks like the criticisms were valid in hindsight. VERY bad decisions and VERY bad preparation. This move can only be a good thing. It's just too bad for him and his fans that it took until after the Ward fight to figure it out, because his next two fights are going to be a walk in the park compared to his last one.
Clear favorite? He's not even close to being the favorite. Ward and Abraham are the clear favorites. Personally, I still favor Kessler to win the tournament over Froch, especially since they are facing each other. I don't see Froch winning another fight in this tournament, nor do I see him advancing to the semifinals. What I do see is Froch and Taylor rematching in a battle for 5th place. So, far from the clear favorite is what Froch is.
Kessler is a come forward fighter with average speed, Froch is way under rated here, Kessler will not embarres Froch guarantee that.
There have been signs the last couple of years, that Kessler (and his team) was not as focused as he ought to be. But if there is any truth to your story, I have to say it is much worse than I thought. Maybe Kessler and his team just grew too complacent. Adding a new coach and a mental coach can only help. Whether it will outweigh his loss of confidence remains to be seen.
Only know about mexican featherweight Salvador Sanchez. Anybody knows Montoya better and can give us a quick resume of his work?
Don't know anything about him but here's a short resume from boxrec: http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Jimmy_Montoya
Well that really depends... Is Jimmy Montoya the right choice? All I can see is that he has a brilliant reputation and has trained som very good boxers. But like I already stated I really don't know much about him and his training methods. Do you know anything about him David?
I only know about the fighters he has trained. But knowing that much, I can assure you that Kessler's preparations will be better than ever from here on out. Those guys listed were always prepared and ready to fight 100%. Judging by those guys' styles, Kessler should be a good fit. That is a pretty serious resume as posted above. And like the article says, "an overlooked trainer". I don't see how this can be a bad move, especially compared to what Kessler had before. I also think Kessler will learn from his last outing, rather than be discouraged. That is to be seen though, and has been one of the big questions lately.
