fell apart mentally. i can't believe people are still peddling this bull****. let me put it this way, when you're only hope is landing a big shot and hoping for the best against a well schooled and nasty hitting guy like kessler then your chances are slim and none, and slim just left the building.
When you say nasty hitting, do you mean power or just awkwardly thrown punches? I agree, Calzaghe is a elite boxer thats hard to get past, but there was many times in the fight Calzaghe left himself wide open for a good counter, yet Kessler froze and didnt pull the trigger, I really believe the pro Calzaghe crowd and being on the big stage like that got to him, because theres no excuse for not pulling the trigger when the opertunity presents itself, and he did have those chances in that fight.
joe was open for counters in the first 4/5 rounds when he was shaking off the ring rust and boy kessler did make him pay on a number of occasions in the 4th with uppercuts and straight shots as well as the second and later on in the 7th. but as the fight wore on and calzaghe got into his groove he began to throw straighter and work primarily off the jab once he'd tasted kesslers power and began to work in straighter lines making him harder to pick holes in. people forget that after 7 rounds there was a round in it but that's when calzaghe showed his superior ability to adapt and ram his advantage home and prove he was the better fight, nothing to do with kessler "mentally falling apart" as some continue to run with. oh and i was at the fight and the atmosphere was mainly one of tension rather than a rowdy, noise making crowd like during the lacy fight so i can't see how the crowd could have made much difference. there were plenty of oohs and aahs whenever kessler connected, that's for sure.
Don't doubt your word, no reason to. But from my couch, and watching it on HBO (where you could really get much more of a feel for the look on Kessler's face and the look in his eyes (unless of course you were there as the referee)) Kessler was like a deer in the headlights after the first few rounds. He seemed robotic and gunshy. Only in the 12th did he seem to find a sense of urgency that maybe Calz was kickin his ass the whole time. What is your opinion on why he abandoned the uppercut??
That must of been one hell of a fight to see live, in any event, the uppercuts were the only thing that impressed me regarding Kesslers ability. He seemed overwhelmed, and actually over powered in a sense, especially during alot of the exchanges in the middle of the ring. I just remember seeing Calzaghe leaving himself open at times, and Kessler did nothing, but stand there and pose, as the fight went on, Kessler was proving to everyone watching, he was being outclassed, and in the championship rounds it seemed he was content on just finishing the fight, instead of trying to win it. If you were there, then you have a better idea than me, but watching it on TV it seemed like a very pro Calzaghe crowd, which may or may not of had a effect on Kessler down the stretch.
i've got the fight on dvd and yes whilst he does look rather apprehensive at the start he still edges the second round and gives joe a bit of a hiding in the fourth. joe stopped ducking his head in like a ****ing idiot. enzo makes a point of telling him to stop it in between one of the rounds.
oh no you misunderstand mate, it was pretty much entirely pro calzaghe. out of about 55,000 only around 4,000-5,000 were there to cheer on kessler but the crowd was very tense and nervous and wasn't making that much noise during the majority of the fight.
Yes, that is exactly the points being made my friend. He edged the 2nd, and did well in the 4th. (I thought for a second Joe may overwhelm him and stop him in the 3rd, watching it live) Other than that and possibly some points for finally pulling the trigger a little in the 12th, what did he do?? Besides pose and get that ass kicked all night.
i simply cannot beleive that people call kessler a ***** - it's hilarious! watch him win, one by one. i dont' even know if i like him to be called a huge fan, but people, this guy is a machine. he would massacre bute (i am a huge fan of bute), would get by froch, and would go through pavlik as well. miranda would give him psychological trouble in the first 2 rounds, then he would gain momentum, late knockout. but he is no pushover. this is amusing though, i wonder if it will make him hungrier?!
Kessler right now is the best natural talent at 168 lbs but the problem with him is he doesn't fight often enough...That's because I believe he needs too much time to make weight, he should fight at Light heavy instead !
If the Miranda - Kessler fight comes off within 4 years, will you agree to a life time ban bet with me?
