As predicted here, Joe Calzaghe served-up Mikkel Kessler the first loss of his career. No shame for Kessler, who fought hard and was graceful after the fight. Next up to lose his undefeated record: Miguel Cotto. Cotto has one edge going into this fight: age. Every other factor -- chin, power, size, strength, experience, speed, ... - favors Sugar Shane Mosley. One week away. Can't wait for this fight to go down. It should be exciting and competitive for as long as Cotto can last. I don't see him making it to the final bell. I think Mosley will stop him via TKO late in the fight, maybe the 10th or 11th round or so. November started out with a bang last night, and next weekend another "0" will go -- Cotto's.
I've got a 'one month off' bet on this fight. Should be fun. It's going to be interesting to see how the Cotto supporters will react when their guy is dismantled by Mosley. I'm not sure if they've allowed themselves the chance to think about Miguel losing. Doug Fischer of MaxBoxing wrote an article about this fight, talking about Shane's training. I'll have to look up the link. I totally agree with him, as he says that he sees almost no way Mosley can lose this fight. Honestly, I have no idea what the people backing Cotto see that makes them think Miguel can win this fight. I don't know if Cotto will get 'Lacy-ed,' but I think he is going to take an enormous beating.
Here's the Doug Fischer article link: http://www.maxboxing.com/Fischer/Fischer110107.asp Doug says he is having a hard time picking Mosley because of his age, but he gives him the 'checkmarks' edge over Cotto.
Cotto will hurt Mosley with his body shot and it will hurt more now that he is 36 than back when he was older. He won't make it to the final belt.
I agree, should be a great fight! I could see Cotto hurting Shane to the body, or Shane being weary of that because of his age. Cotto has a chance, I just don't think it's a very good one. And Shane seems to be very sharp, as Fischer notes in his piece. I think we're going to see some 'powerboxing.' Shane isn't what he once was, but he still has enough left, IMO, to take care of a smaller guy in Cotto. We'll see!
You seem like a stand-up guy. If Cotto wins, is it safe to assume you will give him mad credit? Or will you be like the others who have picked against him in the past, and make excuses and claim the next guy will beat him? (assuming the next guy isn't PBF)
I'm sure he will pummel Shane's meat the same way he did against Judah when he takes some good bats but the difference is that Shane won't be thrown off by it.
Oh no, if he beats Shane, he'll get credit from me. Just like I gave Paul Williams HUGE credit for his win over Margarito. Williams totally showed what he was made of in that fight -- which was a lot more than I thought he had. If Cotto get past Mosley, he'll get big ups from me. I think Mosley will win, and then I think Chicken Floydita will not want to face him until Mosley is at least 37, probably 38. Of course, if Mosley gasses late but still wins, Floyd will want to sign him to a contract the next day. Same as making Hatton fight at WW instead of JWW.
