You can't be much more impressive than Mikkel Kessler and Bernard Hopkins were in their matchups with Danillo Häussler and Kelly Pavlik.

Such strong performances make Joe Calzaghe's wins over Kessler and Hopkins even more remarkable.

How much, if at all, do the victories by Hopkins and Kessler do for Calzaghe's Pound-4-Pound ranking and for Calzaghe's all-time legacy?

    Your thoughts?

I've always said that Calzaghe's win over Kessler will look much better by the time Kessler retires.

When//If Kessler makes some proper noise it will boast Calzaghe's legacy. But he needs to beat up some names to do that.

I'll forgive you for making a statement like this because even someone who should know better like Stevie Bunce has said **** like this - but he's just shamelessly waving the flag and would likely admit it. Boxing does not work in terms of TRIANGLE THEORIES. How many times must people go through it?

Frazier beats Ali, Foreman beats Frazier, Ali beats Foreman.

Taylor beats Hopkins, Pavlik beats Taylor, Hopkins beats Pavlik.

Forrest beats Mosley, Mayorga beats Forrest, Mosley beats Mayorga.

Calzaghe gets SQUAT for the outcome of another contest he does not participate in. Why in the world would he? Between Hopkins and Calzaghe the only overly apparent thing that could be derived from the Hopkins/Calzaghe and Hopkins /Pavlik fights is Hopkins scored easily on both fighters and made both Calzaghe and Pavlik look foolish. Hopkins just let his hands go a lot ****ing more in the Pavlik fight because of a promise he made in advance to be more aggressive and fight as the 'Executioner.' He spared Calzaghe a great deal of flush leather by generically not punching. It's pretty goddamn simple; Hopkins would have put all sorts of damage on Calzaghe if he had thrown more. He couldn't miss him. That's why Calzaghe wants no part of a rematch. Joe knows what the outcome, and this time it would be far more than just humiliation.

Blown up welter, blown up past it welter in controversial 'KO', old and coming down from Rocky weight, blown up MW, blown up overrated MW, gatekeeper, gatekeeper who had previously been KTFO by Trinidad (the blown up welter), not even a gatekeeper, lost to not even a gatekeeper.

Is that all you've got? Why is Hopkins so revered when those are the best he's beaten? Mainly smaller men, and gatekeepers at that.

How many of the guys you named held a world title at any time in their career? Of those that did, at what weight was it? How good was the opponent they beat for their title, and what were the circumstances of their fight (e.g. was it for a vacant title?)

    you're wrong

a boxer's legacy/status is defined by the quality of his wins.

the quality of his wins is defined by the level of his opposition and his performance against them

the level of his opposition is equal to his legacy/status

    repeat... repeat

that's how it works for all boxers. The fact that Foreman destroyed Frazier adds kudos to Ali's victory over him. That Pavlik destroyed Taylor does the same for Hopkins. A fighters greatness is dependent on his opponents and how good they were and go on to be.
