Im not saying anything negative, hes one of my favorites, but has his chin ever been tested? He's never been kd (to my knowledge) but also never really been in with a guy who can really bang. Andrade can punch, but never really connected with a solid, clean punch. Calzaghe and Mundine got some good shots, but neither is a noted power puncher... Thoughts?
as you say it has never really been conclusively tested against. I would love to see him in with someone like Froch or even Abraham.
He got tagged by Sartison and rocked. He seemed to recover very quickly. That's the only time that has happened in his career to my mind. The only fighters to really have hit him cleanly are Mundine and Calzaghe, neither of whom are massive punchers, although they have had their moments and Mundine has pretty decent power. His chin is still bit of an unknown entity, but thats a credit to his skills or perhaps his fairly average opposition.
Sartison hit Kessler dead on with the same right hook that KO'ed a man who had gone 12 (one-sided) rounds with Mundine. And he immediately recovered. And - apart from a freak solar plexus punch in the 8 - Kessler seemed totally unaffected by the punches landed by Clazaghe.
Andrade stunned him a hit in the first or second round of there fight. I think Calzaghe had him rattled once or twice also. This is one of the main reasons I wanted to see him vs Miranda. Miranda if anything can bang and if he landed it would have been a great tested.(that's if he could have even landed a punch)
I think it's on youtube. It was in the first round I think, maybe the second. I didn't see Kessler stunned by Andrade and I definately didn't see Calzaghe stun Kessler, other than the body shot. Although Calzaghe's punches must have gotten the respect of Kessler otherwise he would have gone after him more. Then again, it was probably Calzaghe's movement and feints that limited Kessler's agression. Kessler is also a very cautious boxer.
Yes, his chin has been tested - not often, but yes. He has never been KD'd as a professional. And only once at 15 or 16 as amateur. He has been stunned by Andrade(1st round), Sartison and against Calzaghe for example. So no, we have no indication that his chin is beneath solid.
Sartison rocked Kessler in the 1´st. But Kessler regained control only a couple of seconds later. Against Andrade he had to take punches both to body and chin. It did not affect his performance. Calzaghe hurt him with a body-punch. And Kessler may be a little weak at the body.
1st round. He was caught clean, but 5 seconds later he was back jabbing. This content is protected How's that for a chin test?
Yeah, I think too he´s weak to the body. Against Beyer and Häussler he took some body punches and while he wasn´t hurt you could see him wince a bit when he got hit with them. That maybe a way for future opponents to trouble him.
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5w2oi_mikkel-kessler-vs-dimitri-sartison_sport Don't know how to embed these ones (if its possible) sorry, but here it is. Somewhere in the first round if i remember correctly, nothing too bad to be honest. Just landed a solid shot and Kessler realised that he needed to pull his head in.
