Miranda is not better than Andrade. Miranda would get his ass kicked severely by Andrade. At least come up with some logic. I think Ward will be a really difficult fight, tougher than Abraham and Froch.
I have to admit I see flaws in Kessler. His strength is his commanding offence which puts his opponents on the backfoot plus as Calzaghe shows he doesn't handle being on the backfoot himself. His style worked vs Andrade because Andrade is quiet limited. I do wonder how he'd do against a good counter puncher like Taylor. Basically the 'test' for Kessler will in my eyes be Taylor's counter punching and Froch/Abraham's pressure - if he comes through these he is heir apparent for the 168 division. He's too upright most of the time for me to see him as a great though.
Yeah I don't rate him. As I see it he waits for openings then strikes which won't work vs Kessler. I said Abarham because I know many here feel he's better than Froch for pressure fighting that's why included him :good
Let Kessler get is game shape back by winning this tournament while Bute clears the air with Andrade. Then, I want Bute to call out Kessler and we will have a SMW KING. Don't have to tell you who it is, do I ?
Mundine-Miranda is a tough pick. Mundine is obviously far more skilled but there's the 800 lb gorilla in the room: a guy capable of getting stopped by Ottke is pretty much on thin ice against a confident puncher. That's the other side of the equation though. Miranda last looked supremely confident, like pre-Pavlik confident...against - Banks? And Banks was a foregone conclusion. If Anthony makes it halfway through the fight he wins. Miranda loses a lot of steam the deeper he goes, especially if you make him move his feet (late rallies in the Green fight were reaped from several rounds of toe-to-toe clinching).
Hey Iceland -- I've been reading a lot about "Abraham's pressure" on this board lately. A lot of the people who are swinging off Arthur's nut sack are going to get a rude awakening during this tournament. Arthur will not be fighting former Raymond Joval victim Shannon Taylor. And he sure as hell won't be fighting anyone whose last 5 opponents had 35 losses like Oral and Simon's previous opponents. I'm not saying AA will completely bomb. I'm just saying that even shot to **** version of Jermain is a HUGE step up, and a lot of people are in for some surprises.
Here we go again... First, all ESB experts know that when a fighter loses, he's been exposed.:tired And, i don't believe Ward or Froch can beat Kessler. Still, if it happens, maybe it will mean they are good? No. It will only be "Kessler's been exposed". Right, experts?
I will be relinquishing my scrotal grip and free-falling the moment Abraham faces either Froch or Kessler. Taylor, the Andres - whatever. They may or may not be able to exploit their physical advantages. They could just as easily get KTFO. Froch or Kessler though? I have pretty consistently cautioned that both Abe and Kelly face grave danger against the super middleweight elite - for some time now. :nod As much as I like this tournament idea, and think Abraham will be forced to come out of his turtle shell and engage in some exciting fights, as a fan of his I think this is a TERRIBLE move. Should've held out for Sturm or Pavlik at the weight where his lack of length and slow starting won't be such a glaring issue. He's guaranteed to lose his precious zero now. Not that I personally think that's the end of the world but such a high premium is placed on it in boxing now, and it's a major part of the crux of his whole marketable mystique (as it was for Kelly, and Mikkel, and Jermain...)
I think AA get beat Froch. I just don't think Froch has the defense, speed, or coordination to keep Arthur off of him. Froch is the only fighter in the tournament that I would confidently pick AA to beat. After this touney we're going to start calling my boy JT, Jermain "The Pheonix" Taylor, cuz he is going to rise from the ashes, and kick some mutha****ing ass!:yep
Granted, Arthur won't hit him with nearly as many punches as Carl did, let alone Kelly - but you must certainly admit that he's in the same class as both guys in terms of raw punching power? And he picks his power shots very well, underratedly so (sure, there are wide misses, but the fact that he's able to time nearly as many to land flush given his relative lack of speed is impressive). How many times do you think Jermain can take that? Especially if he's dumb enough to waste energy trying to go balls-out with flashy combinations on Arthur while he's turtled up for the first third of the fight and leaves himself a deflated immobile target late. And if there's one thing we know about Taylor - he's got twice the heart of the tin man, but about half the brains of the scarecrow.
