Like I said..If he faked it, thats the best acting job i have ever seen in my life. The same cannot be said of Liston.
The fight was rehearsed in Barney Curley's, before hand. Ketchel said he couldn't fake it and he would try and take what Jack threw. Johnson picks Ketchel up at least twice in this affair, and sets him back on his feet.
If it wasn't a legit punch, why did Jack get up and immediately turn up the heat? It landed with authority and Johnson had to recover for sure. Fixed fight, but the punch was heavy. The point is that Hearns couldn't handle that right.
The knockdown was faked to make the fight film worth more, according to Gunboat Smith. Perhaps Johnson wanted to finish Ketchel then, and made it all the more dramatic by going down himself just before too.
What would film of the fight have been worth if Jack had come out blasting in the 1st rd ,and tucked Stanley into bed straight away? Because he realised Ketchel was actually trying for the ko . Slow the fight down and watch it, Jack is falling before it lands. Ketchel still ko's Hearns though.
Jack obviously takes a dive there. As for who would win out of Hearns and Ketchel, i would favor the latter.
I think that the punch that dropped Johnson landed on his ear. That aside, I think that history dictates that we favour Ketchel over Hearns based on durability.
