i think a lot of fans who tuned in to see what the fuss was about came away AGAIN from an oscar fight with a bad taste.... between oscar/mayweather and pac/oscar, i think those fights make boxing look bad. the first because it was supposed to be 'the fight that saved boxing' and it was dancing with the stars.... the second because im sure you had tons of people wondering why the hell hoya wasnt doing jack the whole fight (i understand it, but to the casual fan.... im sure they wanted to go back to watching UFC) Its never the fights like Margarito vs Cotto or one of the great trilogies that get huge exposure, the fights that really would show the brilliance and beauty of boxing.... its always this celebrity boxing crap and its not good imo. but whatever.... glad it could make decent numbers. If Hatton vs Pac get made, i hope a lot of people tune into that one, because as long as Ricky keeps his holding down it could be a classic.
I think Pac vs. Mayweather, especially with Mayweather Sr. and Roger on HBO 24/7 is going to break records. Hell I'd pay money to see Roger and Floyd Sr. talking **** about Manny, each other and Floyd Jr.
1.25M buys for Manny-Oscar! HBO Sports reported today that 1.25 million pay-per-view buys were generated from last Saturday’s welterweight fight between Oscar de la Hoya, the sport’s top all-time attraction, and Manny Pacquiao, the sport’s pound-for-pound king, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight was presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank, Inc. The 1.25 million buy total represents the highest performing pay-per-view event in 2008 and generated $70 million in pay-per-view revenue. It is only the fourth time in boxing pay-per-view history that a non-heavyweight event has attained the one million buy mark. “Boxing fans across America showed tremendous support for this event and we’re pleased that they tuned in,” said Mark Taffet of HBO Pay-Per-View.
