Read the RING Magazine article coming out in the next few monthes. There is a big story on KJ in it. Kevin was talking about it on a radio show, and a Russian caller called in and asked him about it. KJ said that it was no big deal, but that E. Steward was very pissed about the situation. KJ and Wlad are sparring partners witth each other, KJ worked with Vitali for his fight with Peters. PEACE.
Kevin never moves forewards, even his last opponent was completely done, Bruce looked impecible by condition, but was shot to bits and as good as dead as far as a threat in the division, but even Bruce got a small foothold in the bout..This opponent is another clown, Kevin has a great jab and some workable skills, but never steps up , just like Malik Scott never steps up.. they never aspire to go any place.. Whats wrong with boxing someone with some kinda pedegree and talent...... I have a name for you and he just loves beating unbeaten prospects , (Cameron, Blocus, Nate Jones, Alonzo Butler..) Friday Ahunanya.. Kevin is just the man we want a piece of....... He is good , don't get me wrong , but he fights no ones.. and never seems to want to..
No most sparring is not taped...and its not the type of thing that always gets out. Dropping someone in sparring doesnt amount to much anyway. 1. It's sparring...you try thing you hone your skills 2. It's sparring...most boxers us multiple partners so that alone tells you its nothing like a fight. If you have 3 partners the you switch out every 3 rounds and #3 drops you...after the 8 round what does that really prove?
Many sparring stories are well known if they actually occurr.... If they are hearsay , it is never really backed up.. over time.. Hardly ever do you see the sparring ko's because the sparring is that frequent that no one expects these kind of things all of the time.... No one can be bothered in camp, the issue is purely the work in hand (sparring heavy duty rounds for ring sharps..) Kevin may have clipped Wladimir in the gym, it means nothing really, all the best guys get shook in the gym , i have seen a lot of dramatic ones, and its in the gym where you do your correctibe work.. you learn in the gym from your mistakes, I have seen Chagaev , Tyson, Julian Jackson all shook in the gym , even Bowe several years ago.. Its no big deal, but as far as videoing that footage .. It sure would be fun to watch........... LOL.. God bless...
Johnson needs to learn a punch other than a jab. The jab is the best punch in boxing, but you have to at least possess SOMETHING else which warrants some respect. He has the jab mastered though and has potential.
If this was his 35th fight I would understand you argument...but since he has 20 fights and has been pro for 5 years then don't see you logic...
Cool post ! BTW ... what I like about Povetkin is he cut right to the chase when he turned pro and despite the risks is prepared to take on Vlad come what may. Even if he doesn't win ... and goes the distance and looks ok in the process, it will gain him credit. Povetkin always seems to find someway to get a W one way or another so he may not be a walkover in that fight. He fought Ahunanya early on and I was quite impressed at that. In a way I see Ahunanya as the same breed in that he hasn't been content to fight a constant stream of easybeats ... his only losses are to 'name' fighters Lyakhovich, Ibragimov, etc and he currently coming off two nice wins against very decent opposition. Kevin Johnson/Ahunanya would be a good/tough fight for both IMO. A solid win for either would be well respected. It's really good that KJ is being active but he's not generating much respect fighting non-threatening opposition. I think the same way about Boytsov. Of course, an actual fighter is going to think about things more pragmatically than a boxing fan watching from outside, but in the end the acculmilated viewpoints of boxing fans counts for a fair bit and until we see something impressive (such as Povetkins win over Ahunanya) it's hard to really gauge where someone like Johnson is really at.
