I agree. He won't go far. Can you imagine what Chris Arreola would do to him? He would bang him out in brutal fashion. "Fast' Eddie Chambers would eat him alive as well among many others. ****, Monte Barrett would easily hand him his ass.:smoke :smoke

I agree. He seemed lacklustre and lacksadasical. He didn't look to be in good condition (soft midsection and lazy work rate), didn't show much snap in his punches and seemed just to be going through the motions. This just won't cut it with a good top 10-15 fighter.

I am glad i am not on my own, I watched the aging Seldon (in great shape to his credit) pick at him from distance and have the younger Johnson back on up with no whip cracking comeback in his arsenal what so ever.. He was woefully soft around his waste (like Butler was in his loss to Ahunanya) and shoddily unmotivated for all of his hype. This young man is the so called fresh young talent , my god, Take one pinch of Arreola, a hint of Povetkin and a dash of Eddie Chambers and this guy collapses.. Do these kinda guys train down at Burger King... All the frigging talk and no substance.. I am starting to cross men like these off my list of tips for the top.. Big Zo Butler ..... (Hype) Kingpin... (Hype) my hopes lie in Arreola and Povetkin i think..

All he mostly does is throw jabs and that's not going to get him to the top level, he'll lose soon.

I put this in the Greenberg thread:
I haven't seen the Johnson fight, but your critique of it/him seems a bit over the top.

From the sound of it, he fought like he's typically fought up to this point. Who's to say when he gets in with someone world-class, he won't bring the intensity? You simply don't know. He's been fed soft morsels, and he knows it, and fights to the level of his opposition. He's even said as much. If/when he gets an opportunity like Chambers did against Povetkin, we'll see whether or not he's really hungry, and saving the good stuff for the big stage as he claims. My curiosity is still piqued and I'm not ready to write him off until then.

Johnson has a good jab (his own words"better than Holmes had"...) but his mouth is the best around. He won't come far.

You generally know your hw's well, but as someone who was hoping for the seldon upset, i think johnson looked pretty good. Yes Seldon had some sucess (limited after the first round), but seldon looked decent - he still had that sharp fast jab and as you said he looked very fit. and johnson either made seldon quit fairly early or he stopped him fairly early. johnson has very good handspeed and pretty good power behind his shots. yes, he could be in better shape and he should take more chances (he could've stopped it earlier imo and the last fight i saw of his he just went for the points decision).
To me he looks way better than let's say Estrada another guy who is touted for his skill.
IMO he could be a contender in this era

  11. Come on. Kevin Johnson beat Bruce Seldon. That is no accomplishment these days. Remember when Tye Fields KO'd Seldon a few years ago. Since then Fields has proven to be the savior of the HW division.

Yes, Friday's been on a roll lately.

You could almost say he's been...*straightens tie, shifts glasses, clears throat*...'Good' Friday!
    Ohohoho!

they should definitely do the fight, but from what i've seen (two johnson bouts, 1 estrada fight plus "highlight" clips), Johson has the potential to be the better HW. johnsons' hands are faster (or at least as fast) and more importantly heavier from what i've seen. johnson lacks some killer instinct, but he's more of a legit hw. estrada can't bang w/ legit decent hw's and should move down imo. btw, johnson's jab looked pretty damn good
