That's what he says in his latest Kingpin diary update. :huh This guy sure does talk a lot. “I started my day here with a 5k run at 6:00AM in the morning. I’m trying something new for this fight. Moving to two-a-day sparring. After my run and some calisthenics, I got in 12 rounds of tip-top sparring. I’m starting to scare myself. “I’m punching a lot harder and crisper that I ever have in my life. If Vitali thinks that he’s getting the Kevin Johnson that he’s studied on tape, he’s sadly mistaken. “I spent a few moments returning calls from a lot of friends, family and other fighters who have called to wish me luck – but I won’t need luck. I’m going to win this fight the old fashioned way, with grit and determination. “After lunch, I got in another 12 rounds of sparring that went as well as the first. My trainers are pushing me harder than I ever have been pushed in my life. They’ve even given my sparring partners free reign to try to knock my head off and I love it. The fight won’t be as half as difficult as my training for this fight."
I love how all of Vitali's opponents say essentially the same things and seem to talk themselves into believing it. Then they get in the ring and find out after the second round that they can't do a goddamn thing against the guy and by the sixth or seventh are looking hopeless and sad and are just trying to go the distance.
Thats only like 3 miles Joe Frazier used to run 10 no wonder heavywieghts used to be in shape i miss the days of fighters who looked like Holy, Tyson, Weaver, and Bruno guys who were not big but were in titp top and could fight not get tired and have high workrates. I shake my head when people show up to title fights as fat as peter, toney, areolla, its a disgrace to the sport. David Haye seems to be very old school in his approach like Byrd and Holyfield weighing in the 210's.
5k is 3.1 miles. That is NOT a lot of mileage, but you don't want to be running too much a week or two out from a fight. Ten miles a day for a heavyweight so close to a fight would really dumb too. 50-70 mile weeks do not help your anaerobic fitness, and 15-25 miles a week will keep you a nice fitness endurance base without taking too much out of your legs.
Haye, Holyfield and Byrd hardly use/d old-school trainign methods, infact Haye has quite an unorthodox apporach to his cardio. Holyfiled and Byrd had rather distinct trainging methods too. I wouldnt want my fighter running more than 3 mils on a morning if he were gonna spar 24 rounds later that day ..
Haye is a weightlifter, which is most assuredly not old school. That's probably why he has stamina issues and could only manage 20 punches around agains the hairy heavybag, Valuev. :nut
Okay you got me there but it's my point though. Thes fighters should lose the extra poundage they would be alot more effective.
