236 matches as a pro in a 13 year long pro career. That's just not something you see now days.In and of itself, that's a hell of an accomplishment. For that and that alone, this man deserves his own thread and a round of applause. Just think 209 losses, and still undaunted! Here's some of his recent performances. I've always wondered how guys like this think of themselves and approach their preparation. Is the trainer shouting to him in sparring "that's it! Be a teak tough veteran! Ask him some questions! No quit in you!"? Does he secretly think he might beat this next one, and actually about half his losses were robberies anyway?
He won’t spar. Or at least very rarely. It is literally a career. He will earn a £1,000 plus for a 4 round fight. 6 rounders more like £1,500. Plus he will work full time too. All about defence, don’t be silly and engage if it’s a puncher. Take walks, slow the pace down, be awkward, take the power out of shots with head movement. His experience now means it’s like a day at the office for him unless he faces a genuine killer prospect.
Since 2016 only stopped 3 times and v Troy Williamson, Danny Ball and Jack Catterall. All domestic level fighters who can dig a bit. Any low level novice will struggle to put any kind of dent in him.
I admire these types of boxers. They work ! But it's no secret that they lose a lot of fights deliberately. They go in there and give a 'prospect' or 'ticket-seller' a few rounds but don't often take the opportunities to upset the applecart. That raises questions about whether we can really consider professional boxing a sport.
Tough guys who deserve admiration..... the game wouldn't be the same without the likes of him, Peter Buckley, Johnny Greaves, Kristian Leight doing the job they do / did.
These guys are important, although I can't imagine it's good for their health to be getting knocked out 15 times. But I have respect for these dudes.
We can't. Because pro boxing is not like some amatuer championship or pro contest tournament. In pro boxing main difference is that boxers might have different notice periods before fight. There is some city, local prospect ofc is told when will be fight event with advance because it is good that he talks about fight event with friends, in gym, relatives etc, the more ppl does know this, the better. They are talking about this, more ppl does know this, to sell tickets then is easier. It is also PR for event and for free + bonus better tickets sales. Who doesn't wish free advertisement? Away corner guys usually doesn't sells tickets, they are not known in this city. So you may put them on card even 1-2-3 days before fight event or week before fight. While prospects usually knows this longer than 1 month before and happens that 2-3-4 months before. Imagine difference from preparation time alone? Then matchmaking of course too. it is hard to win on cards even with 0 corruption if you aren't known in city and opponent is well advertised in this city as good, promising etc. Crowd supports tickets seller, everyone there does know that tickets sellers are people who are keeping promotion going and without them they did not had attention and income there. OK, imagine what might happen if tickets seller lost on cards? Fans will call him a bum, did not buy enough tickets. Money is important.
