Lost his passion for the sport midway into training camp. No word yet on whether a replacement challenger will be found to vie in Mitchell's stead for Edis Tatli's European title next month.
[YT]dYAbUc11qMo[/YT] This is more emotional than Daniel Bryan's retirement earlier this week. Anyway, I look forward to 2020 when he enters the international boxing hall of fame.
I've always liked Mitchell. He's a little cockney whelk and I'm sure I'd find him a bit irritating after spending more than 20 minutes in his company, but he comes across as a nice lad and he's actually one of the most naturally talented fighters we've got over here, IMO. When it comes to boxing ability and natural talent he wasn't lacking at all. His main problem was his punch resistance and making bad lifestyle choices and a lack of dedication.
Bad spot of luck running up consecutive losses to both Venezuelans. He was coming off a very nice recent victory over Estrada just this same time last year.
...but if the luster is gone, best exit the game. This is the hurt business, you can't be half-assing it.
I believe he's looking into training next. Specifically, assisting Tony Sims as his apprentice cornering other fighters.
Well if I was looking at the prospect of potentially becoming a journeyman to be fed to Verdejo, Estrella and Saul Rodriguez I'd retire too.
Good call Kevin Mitchell. You know when you know. Better this then flogging yourself through a training camp you dont want to do for a fight you dont want to have. What a warrior he was. Brave as they come, very game, aggressive and talented. Never dull to watch either. He wasnt far off the very top but you cant all be the best. Certainly cant say he didnt try. He should get on Boxnation or Sky cuz when hes ever been ringside bowtied up with a mic infront of him hes always been good to listen to.
