Kevin Mitchell v Edwin Valero

Valero is actually a banger with some decent skills. Prescott padded his records with Colombian cab drivers. This fight would be completely different to last night, Valero has good technique and speed and at the moment I'd say he'd beat Kev.

 

I'm not against the fight but what I would warn is Valero is a lot better than Prescott!

I'm not saying it would be beyond mitchell because I am a big fan but it is a totally different prospect than Prescott.

 

Don't think so, Valero is a top class boxer as well as puncher IMO, although it is difficult to judge his boxing skills since he KO's everyone! Would be an exiting fight though, Mitchell also has quality boxing skills and great handspeed, think Valero would win it.

 

Valero is an entirely different proposition to Presscot. Whilst Valero has his own technical deficiencies, he can fight on the inside and has more accuracy to his punches. It would be a dangerous fight and I'd prefer to see how he copes with Katsidis first at this stage.

 

Valero is not that much better than Prescott.

He is crude. He has little to no defence, and has been put down and rocked by a not massive punching 130lber.

Whilst the Pitalua win was fairly impressive (mainly due to Pitalua's decent win beforehand against Santa Cruz and the fact he demonstrated his own monster power recently) Valero's next assignment reeks of someone who is padding a record.

Valero has been fairly unlucky with the way his carreer has hit a roadblock in the States (even now post-Pitalua) but he doesn't conduct himself well out of the ring, and he's a big puncher just waiting to be derailed.

Mitchell COULD do it, if he fights smart. Getting into a tear-up with a slightly fatigued Valero around the 6th/7th round would reap rewards IMO.

Mitchell hasn't put himself in the upper echelons of the division yet (he may never) but Valero has already reached his level and has done nothing to suggest he will be anything more than another hyped banger who gets beaten as soon as he meets 'that fighter'.

It won't be Velasquez, nor the next in line, nor DeMarco, who starts slowly, but soon Valero will be (and I hate this word) 'exposed'.

You may be right about him being exposed but I'm not sure. I think he has some decent skills there. And he has already showed that he can climb of the deck to win.

I agree though that it is a fight that mitchell could win.

Oh I agree. But I think Katsidis is a better fight for him at the moment. I don't see any point in hanging around with Mitchell though, and if the Valero fight was there then I would like to see him take it.

Kevin Mitchell will NOT beat Valero, I like Kevin and i hope he wins a world title, but i think Valero is a step too far for now.

 

Nothing wrong with Valero's skills, he's one of those guys with a high KO ratio so its assumed he can't box. He's pretty decent. He's just very aggressive and has his crazy moments when he hurts his opponents, why wouldn't you be with that type of power.

Difference between Valero and Prescott is the speed, southpaw stance which makes it more awkward to avoid, and the fact Valero's punching technique is superior, he can punch short and long. Prescott's punches all come from the same place and angle, hence why Mitchell and that other guy diffused him.
