i trained at the same gym as kevin mitchell, he was an outstanding amateur, he was one of the hardest working in the gym but it sickened me over the last few months how the media tried to make him out to be a world class fighter before his ring walk we had a british commentator saying he will be the next hatton! shortly after in the first round one of the commentators was matching up mitchell with juan manuel marquez one of the greatest fighters ever, they were talking about how it would be an interesting fight! i feel bad for mitchell but damn am i glad he got his ass whooped!
I felt sad for him actually. Hes a likeable fighter and it was suppose to be his big night. End of the day theres european level and then theres world class. It was a step too far. He will never be a world champion now. Katsidis a good world calss fighter in his own right has failed at the final hurdle himself, and he made mitchell look like a young boy. He was brought back to earth brutally im afraid.
i feel bad for him too, he's a very likeable guy and was very popular in the gym it was kinda sad and funny how he started mouthing off about other fighters recently, talking about how americans are on steroids and how they lose when they face a brit.
i agree with everything you say, Mitchell started to get hyped after prescott (who is a good fighter) and katsidis was too much for him, i love how they started saying katisidis could be damaged goods got nothing against him its just the ****ing press, full of dickheads making some of the worst amatuerish comments ever, they sky sports commentators r full of **** too!!
Yes he was never anything special until he lost badly his first fight, of course until that occurred he was either very good or something special. What im getting at, is its so easy to knock the guy after he has lost so badly (badly in terms of how quick it was)
He sure had me fooled. I knew Katsidis was a hard puncher but wow. Mitchell may have been overwhelmed by the pressure of putting on a good show at home, not to mention a strong opponent. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
you're moaning about hype and also manage to describe JMM as one of the greatest fighters ever in the same post. nice.
I feel sorry for Kevin too, but Katsidis landed some good shots.. when he did in round 1 I thought it was going to be over quickly as Kevin wasn't getting out of the way of them and looked a little shaken up. The different in physique to me seemed quite an indicator as to where the power lay.. and as soon as Michael got close that power was used well.
