When Mitchel won the ABA's he was considered THE find ofhose particalar championships. He's done nothing wrong so far as a pro either.. Fair enough he's mixed at a low level but i he beats CJ maybe he starts making some real progress.
Believe me mate he was in the beginning. His protected him very well and has certainly made him a wealthy boy at a young age.But i dont believe Warren thinks he has as much talent as Khan aswell as being a very low profile fighter in comparison.
rumour is that he couldv participated in the olympics back in 04 but he chose to sign with warren as his family needed the cash
Yeah h possibly could have but I was under the impression he wasn't an established england international.... might be wrong but I think it was his first run at the ABA's- anyone know who he beat on route?
I think faisal is correct. I remember hearing this numerous times when his career frist started from the commentators on sky sports. He could have stayed amateur and gone to the olympics but he decided to go pro, because his family needed the money.
Yes he did give up the chance of competing at the 2004 Olympics by turning pro and signing with Warren. Mitchell was an exceptional amateur - four time National Schoolboy Champion Titles, 2000 Junior Olympics Silver Medal, ABA 2002 Junior Featherweight Champion & ABA 2003 Senior Featherweight Champion (one of the youngest boxers ever to win a senior ABA crown at only eighteen). Very talented and often underrated fighter but does need to step up level of competition - Johanneson should be a good test next.
i remember back when he was training for the aba's, our coach asked him why he doesn't come training saturday mornings, he replied he goes out clubbing friday nights and gets wasted and sleeps it off all saturday, the coach got pissed off and immediately pulled him out the aba.
the kid has got a nice lookin bird, (she looked fiesty when he fought that bulgarian a year ago)i'll give him props for that he obviously seems good with the ladies i guess if worse comes to worse in his next bout he can always get his missues to pull out the rack and distract johensson,
he beat my gym mate gareth couch in the final. kev would have gone olympic, he was good enough, could have medaled too, exceptional amatuer. thought i had posted in this thread:huh basically my point is due to the level of competition, kevs defense has slipped a bit, i believe when the step up comes, ie johansen and onward, you will see the old slick kev mitchell again. i genuinely think he has the tools to compete on the world stage.
Not seen Kev's fights when he was slick, only seen his commonwealth fights but he shows better power and chin than Johannesson.
maybe i'm missing something...I've seen most of his fights and he looks a good domestic fighter and that's it. No defence and average in other departments. I pick Johanssen to beat him.
i met vinny when on holiday this summer, really top guy. He hasnt fought since July which is strange and the guy he is fighting next has 1 defeat and 1 draw 0 losses, even stranger!
