offensively he's brilliant, he has every shot on the book, he's fast and hits hard with good technique. his only problem is his defence, he's way too easy to hit, a bit like khan. if he could learn to keep a tight defence and work on his foot and head movement he would be top 3 fighter at 135. someone like roach is great at ironing out those mistakes and teaching fighters to think in the ring.

i doubt he'll go there though because tibbs is rated as a very good trainer in the UK which im sure is. i just think he doesn't have the knowledge and craft of someone like roach.

I agree he could be alot better, but he doesnt need roach to carry it out.

I disagree. There seems to be so much talk of various fighters from the UK upping sticks and headiong to the states to be trained.

Ok fair enough it seems to have worked for Amir but not every fighter would benefit from it, those especially who have young families here in the UK.

Why would he go to Roach if his defence is bad?

erm..... amir khan? exactly what he got out of roach. tighter defence and learned to think in the ring. roach is very good at improving flawed but talented fighters. eg khan, pacman. he works on the simple things well which is where mitchel needs improving. his guard, movement, and boxing brain. kev has so much natural talent but i feel he wont get the best out of it untill he works with a truly world class trainer.

i wouldn't go to roach if its defense he wants to work on, he might be a great trainer but he aint no defensive specialist.

i thought Murray would win on saturday night , god knows why going by his last couple of performances, he looked sluggish to say the least against Mitchell. Murray was greatly untested and nowhere near world level as is Mitchell. Mitchell's face was badly swolen after the shots he took, he wouldnt be able to see due to swelling if he was to get in the ring with Rios.

Mitchell would box nicely for the first 10 seconds then get drawn into a brawl immediatley and he just clammed up every time Murray smothered him. He also couldnt adapt to the constant slow overhand right Murray kept throwing hence why his ear had ballooned up badly and looked ready to fall off!!

He is quick and throws nice combinations but i think he needs another solid performance before Katsidis. If Katsidis hasnt slided then Mitchell is in for another beating.

Everyone was raving about Murray before he got KTFO but now all a sudden he's untested. I hope this isnt going to turn into another situation where ppl are hating on a british boxer just cos they lost a few quid on him..

As for Mitchell I would back to him to get past Kats now. Its true that before the first fight Mitchell and Warracunt seemed to think they could use Kats as a stepping stone, which was obviously another dumb **** Warracunt decision.

Everyone should know Kats is a true warrior and he proved in that fight he wasnt quite ready to be put out to stud in Chang Mai quite yet.- that he had another couple of wars left in him. To be fair I think in his last two fights he's had them, not exactly been coasting.. I respect him but I'd have to say he's been a punching bag for elite level fighters.

I dont really like to comment when fighters use lack of preperation as an excuse for losing a fight. So we'll never really know how much of an influence that had on Mitchells first loss.

I think Rios is the real overrated one, and I've seen plenty of his fights. He's just a crude slugger, a thug like Maidana. Sure I like watching them put on a show, but put them in with a classy boxer puncher and they come unstuck. Its already happened to Maidana and I expect the same to happen to Rios. Bam Bam has zero defence, I seriously doubt his hands are as heavy as ppl make out. Sure he's put away a few glorified mexican journeymen and got a belt. But its mostly hype because Golden boy needs a new LA fighter to fill the Staples center. He will be exposed sooner or later, maybe not against Mitchell, but he's got a lot better chance than ppl make out..

Last time i checked neither Pac or Khan had great defenses, in fact Maidana was hammering Khan on the inside through that "tightened" guard you speak of, during the last few rounds of their fight. They are both there to be hit.

Mitchell carries his hands to low and has the tendancy to just side step out of danger with his hands at his waist, he'll get stopped just as fast if not faster then Kats did when he steps up.

When he wants to start working on defense he'll do just that. Roach is not the solution for every boxer flaws. Also Roach has never been known to be focusing on defense. IMO he brings a lot of knowledge to any fighter and he brings a lot of confidence to the fighters as well because of his reputation and the fact that a fighter trained by Roach will do train his ass off knowing that it's a great opportunity given to them. He is a great trainer no doubt but there are other very good trainers in the world.
Usually the 1st name that comes up when fixing a fighter defense is Mayweather Sr and I think it's BS bc finding the right trainer is not that easy. It's not only about the fighter needs and what the trainer is specialized into it's about finding the right match.
