I really thought Kevin Mitchell came off age the night he totally outboxed Breidis Prescott, it was a brilliant performance and I am a big admirer of his boxing style. After that performance I felt he could go on to win a world title.

Then he got stopped by Katsidis and Ricky Burns. The Katsidis loss was put down to out of the ring distractions etc, but he got beat by Burns with no excuses re: training camp etc.

Compare Mitchell's recent career path with Prescott. Prescott lost two in a row, on points to McCloskey and then he got stopped by Mike Alvardo. Then Prescott fought two unknowns and now he will fight for the WBA light welterweight title at the end of this month.

A couple of losses isnt the end of the world, he is capable of securing another world title shot, but what does Mitchell need to do to improve as a fighter and is he still capable of winning a world title?

Mitchell is safe from Katsidis now. He's retired.

Mitchell's only chance is to go back down to 130lbs. Has impressive skills and is a great fighter when he's on it. Just think he loves a brawl too much and he's been punished for it by both Katisidis and Burns. Stood toe to toe and got blasted out instead boxing off the backfoot like he did against Prescott. It will likely happen again if he continues at lightweight.

He needs to fight every 3 months so he is always in the gym meaning no distractions.

If Kevin wants to try and go for a world title he better hurry up but hopefully tomorrow might shed some light. Prescott based in america and has a fan friendly style obviously got the opportunities on his doorstep so a bit more fortunate in some ways than Kevin.

Improve? maybe his discipline, appears to have sorted it out outside the ring though ive heard rumours saying otherwise. Burns fight he got all macho and threw his discipline away (not taking anything away from ricky). kevins got to find that discipline he had in the Prescott fight.

people thought Prescott beat Mccloskey and i think he was ahead of Alvardo when he got stopped in the last round sometimes its not just the loss its the manner of loss, Mitchell 2 title shots have lasted a total of 7 rounds i struggle to see him being able to step up again mentally

I don't think he takes a shot or handles pressure too well. Realistically, who can he beat at 135 to get a title?

    Broner? Abril?

He can't go to 140, he's small at 135. Bruns was likely his best chance and he got taken out. He has some nice skills, a good jab, and can punch a bit, but he's just not got the thing that takes a fighter to the next level.

If he doesn't move down then I wouldn't mind matching him in a rematch with John Murray. He's apparently got his licence back and will fight again soon. Both are coming off bad losses and both want to get back in contention. Last fight was FOTY in my opinion, why not do it again? Would help beef up one of Frank's shite cards.

The Prescott fight was a good performance but to be honest Prescott was horrendous. His punches were so telegraphed he may as well have told Mitchell which punch he was gonna throw before he did it. Completely one dimensional and had no plan B when plan A was a complete fail. So while I give Mitchell credit for that fight, maybe people read too much into it. I think his opponent that night probably made him look better than he is.

Well look at where Prescott is now you could say hes improved but he has loses some debatable, or maybe some are just being too harsh on Mitchell.

The boy doesn't have it sadly, He's crumbled twice albeit to good operators. To many excuses used.

Does he have world class ability?. Yes there's no doubting he can operate at world class level in terms of skill and technique.

Is he cut out mentally to be a world champion?. Well twice he's been asked questions and twice he's fallen apart in ridiculously quick fashion.

I think if he's to win a world title it's got to be a gimme.
