Any thoughts on Kevin Pompey? He's a journeyman that doesn't get talked about enough. As his nickname suggests he was most definitely a highly entertaining fighter in the 90s who has been in some very bruising, fast paced fights. Not a world class fighter and he mostly took fights on short notice. Win or lose this man came to fight.
Some of his great fights that he’s been in, some of them are worthy of being FOTY candidates IMO. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
Good fighter. Saw some of his earlier bouts on ESPN top rank boxing. Think I saw his fight with Tyrone Trice unless I’m mistaken. That was ages ago
A great ESPN level main event fighter absolutely worthy of a thread! All heart and stamina for days. Shame he didn't have a bigger moment in the sun to be remembered more.
His admirable effort against Omar Sheikh with a very bad ending. BS stoppage but still a valiant performance despite the punishment Pompey took in this fight. This content is protected
Came across his fight with Santos Cardona. And as expected a highly entertaining bout. What a savage war this one is. Check it out. This content is protected
It's ridiculous. At this point we should just have a separate video platform specifically boxing related if it means keeping them up and available for hard core fans to watch without getting them nuked. Have you checked out Kevin Pompey's fights? Very exciting to watch despite being a mid-level fighter.
@Dynamicpuncher not sure if you’ve heard of this fighter before but I think you might be interested in watching some of Pompey’s fights. Dont let the journeyman record dissuade you this guy was fun to watch and was in some great action fights.
Thanks for posting this. I saw it live on TV, and have looked for this on YouTube/Daily Motion/Vimeo a few times over the years. Absolutely a great fight. Good shout out on Pompey as well. Always in good fights. First time I saw Pompey, he was fighting a guy by the name of Warren "Moon" Nelson. Pompey was well ahead in that one IIRC, seemingly cruising to a UD. I left the room for a while, and later in the broadcast when I came back to watch I heard that Pompey was stopped, but never saw any highlights of it. Was very surprised because there were no signs that Nelson had it in him to turn that one around, at least IMO. If anybody has this, would be much appreciated if you could post it. Would still like to see what happened there.
I've already started to take my stuff elsewhere. When the gig is up for this iteration I think I'm out for good. I never really got into Pompey's stuff to be honest, but I'm open ears for any exciting fighter of the past, regardless of what space they occupied in the sport.
Another very entertaining fight with Kevin Pompey against Harold Brazier although he comes up short against the seasoned veteran in the rematch. This content is protected
This was the fight that started Pompey on his downward slide. Pompey always gave 100% in the ring and I was always cheering for him as he neared a title shot but Cardona derailed that. Have his fight with Darren Morris who was working with Dundee and Pompeys determination carried him to that win
