Round 9

Heffron is doubling out a high jab coming forward, chasing Thain into a corner. Thain ducks and covers, then steps out to one side and catches Heffron with a counter jab. Thain is flapping his left arm down across the back of Heffron's neck as he barges in. 1-1-2 on the face by Heffron as Thain steps to him. The ref calls time and has tape on Heffron's glove examined and fixed. Time in. Heffron is pressing forward but caught with a short uppercut before Thain grabs and releases him. Another counter uppercut by Thain. Jabs popped from outside by Thain, moving in halfway to meet Heffron and tie up strategically before Heffron can deliver his payload up close. No body shots landed by Heffron for some time now. Thain is dancing away, keeping Heffron out behind the jab. Heffron presses Thain into the ropes and hammers at his sides as Thain shells up and leans down into him. Thain circles out. 1-2 into the guard by Thain. Lead right hand on the forehead by Thain. Heffron jumps in on him, another clinch in the corner. Wild stuff by Heffron, barking. Right hand whizzes over Thain's head. Another clinch, Thain writhing his arms snakelike around Heffron's and coiling them down to his sides.

Round 10

Heffron is now backed into a corner, Thain poking him with the jab. Heffron pounces forward, leading with a right to the body. Thain leaps away, still unrolling the jab like a royal carpet. Counter uppercut by Thain leaning against the ropes in wait for Heffron. Pause. The ref has tape on Heffron's glove fixed yet again. Time in. Heffron is throwing high left hooks rushing forward. Counter lacrosse-sticks from Thain, dragging his feet in perpetual retreat. Heffron closes in on him and they grapple, arms raised over shoulder level. Thain closes his armpit to trap Heffron's left glove and Heffron bangs his opposite side with the right. Long clinch, Thain spinning out and jabbing. Another clinch, Heffron trying to wrench his arms free to work the body but Thain holding on tight.

The referee scores the contest 96-95 to Ronnie Heffron.

 

The commentators are mildly surprised, having been impressed by Thain's "boxing" in the middle rounds (like many people on Twitter) but they admit it was close. They saw Thain nicking it by a point or so.

Satchell has changed his ring name from "Satch" to "Iceman", apparently.
