There is a martial arts school near my house which claims to be the first school for the Keysei Fighting Method. I talked to the instructor and he said its a weapon based system meant for encounters in the street with multiple opponents. I thought this was interesting but was a little taken aback by their methods of training, as well as their stance. For example, I was very surprised to see that they keep their hands on top of their head, crouch down really low and move their hands all around. I thought that maybe this left their body wide open so when I pointed this out to the instructor, he told me that being hit in the body can not knock you out, but getting hit in the head will so they focus on protecting their head. But I think this is a mistake because I box (as a hobby, not professionally) and I know body shots can hurt you, sometimes more than a head shot. Another concern was that their methods of training seemed a little too choreographed. Granted, it was a beginners class that I observed. Anyone have any experience with this martial art or want to comment on what I observed?
Holy ****. While I've got no problem with focusing your protection on your head, and I've taught security officers similar head protection methods, to say that a body sht won't knock you out is just stupidity. The guys we teach are focused on head protection because that's what people attacking them are most likely to throw, and being security officers, they're only going to need to protect themselves for a few seconds before other officers can grab a hold of whoever's attacking them. But we're not ignorant enough to think that a body shot can do damage.
