Call me a *****, an internet-warrior, say I know nothing about boxing and anything else you wanna throw in. But I'm also a boxing fan and have been for 15 years now. And I believe finding ways to put on higher quality of cards is something that need's to be reviewed. I know that having Ward-Gatti style wars are career shortening and therefore don't make sense to stage them for little money or for non-title bouts. But to then stage complete mismatches, with any excuse to justify the match-up, and expect boxing fans to take interest will never help Australian boxing flourish. I know it's hard to find quality opposition for our top fighters in comparison to fighters in the states or Europe where there's a lot more interest and money in boxing and therefore a lot more fighters taking the sport seriously and having a serious go at it. I believe we should make 10 rounders a rarity in Australia. If you asked any none-boxing fan that watched the Mundine-Geale 2 card which fight they thought was the fight of the night, they will without doubt pick the Kimbo fight. Not the world title fight that had two of our best fighters going at it or the Joel Brunker bout showing 12 rounds of one of our best talents, but the 4 rounder with two big *******s getting straight to the point. By staging shorter bouts you therefore don't have to find an opponent with 12 round fitness and there's a lot less wear-and-tear taken by the fighters meaning they're still saving their best for the big money fights. If it's a great fight it can be a great four/six round fight. If it's a **** fight it can be a **** four/six rounder. But if I was to count the amount of times I've seen someone fall asleep watching a 10 round snore fest on a Mundine card I might need a third hand. So many top Aussie fighters have got the IBF pan pacific title and than fought ten or so nobody's in a row knowing that this will get them a high world ranking. I believe this is in some ways damaging to Australian boxing. I didn't watch the Junior bout and for all I know it was an entertaining bout. So I'm not targeting Junior with this post. I'm just having my say on the sport in general. My logic is I'd rather see a 4, 6 or 8 rounder where there could be a competitive bout happen than a 10 or 12 rounder where I'm 99% sure of what the result will be
