Amir Khan saw his career taking a decline and took measures to halt his decline by taking positive actions to improve on his technique. He had many choices such as to stay with his past trainer, or seek out help from America's trainer who currently train the boxing world's #1 or #2 p4p skilled boxers, Mayweather or Hunter. I think that Khan obviously needed to add more defensive fundamentals to his game, and either Mayweather of Hunter could assist him with that. However, from a personality standpoint, Mayweather may have offered the least in terms of psychological strength than Hunter, as well as lacking in character traits. Hunter seems to be the best choice for helping Khan and his performance last night distinctly shows signs of Hunter's influence incorporated into Khan's boxing arsenal. Clearly Khan has made a good choice in advancing his career when he made the decision to team up with Virgil Hunter.
It was a tough and risky choice... Only now 2 fights and 2 years later have the results started to come through. Virgil was right...these things take time...props to Khan for actually taking this stuff in...that year off just sparring and in the gym really helped him. He controlled Collazo extremely well... Amazing the difference between Khan in the Diaz fight and Khan in the Collazo fight. Still need to see if he can position himself to avoid the left hook that haunts him when he is put up against an Orthodox fighter.
