Totally agree with the second part. Partly the first part as well about it being good numbers for a ppv fight in britain. But you ve got to look at it from a financial point of view. When joshua fough whyte. Whyte was paid something like 250,000. Thats why hes happy with the numbers for that fight. I d imagine golovkin got paid a good bit more than that though...we re talking millions. Joshua probably got more than brook but i dont think much more considering it had to be lucrative to jump two weights to fight probably the best or one of the best fighters in the world. I guarantee hearn made more from the joshua fight than brook v golvokin. He didnt need good numbers for the golovkin fight he pretty much needed amazing numbers for it.
I thought it sounded like Khan's team offered brook a guarantee with no upside ie a flat rate? They basically said a % is meaningless when you don't know what the final number is eg 50% of 10 mill isn't as good as 30% of 20mill regardless of what your opponent gets. They offered Brook a figure far higher than he had ever been paid before and they were going to take all this risk because if it bombed Brook still gets paid and if its a success they all get paid?
But it doesn't take a genius to realise that this will be a huge success. This idea that Brook should be happy with the guarantee is laughable.Khan will make more than double then Kell.
Team Khan can say "a % is meaningless" but the Khan team haven't offered Brook anything other than a %. How can they? They don't have a platform do they? It would be on Sky Sports Box Office, Matchroom would basically be running the show and I assume supply the undercard. What Team Khan are saying is "be happy with the % we want you to have" and they know 70-30 is outrageous and can't possibly be accepted. They are blatantly pricing themselves out of a Brook fight, Khan does not want it, he really doesn't.
I don't understand though, how can khans team make an offer? The money will be coming from sky ppv, kell brook is the sky fighter. Khans team have no network or money to offer surely? The offer is from brooks side surely
Isn't it that team khan know exactly how well this fight does so all they are saying is Kell you get a guarantee amount of this. Knowing fall well amir will take more than double of the guarantee Kell gets. This whole the fight may not sell theory Asif Ali is trying to put across is just him trying to fool people.
Not sure how it works but think khans team would deal with that. They basically give kell a flat fee. Then take over the event. They pay the expenses but take all the profit. They d pay Eddie for his work/sky platform etc. I bet kell wouldnt even see 30 percent in the end. If there arguing a 70/30 split as fair you can imagine what their negotiating as projective figures to come up with kells guarantee. Its basically extortion. Think it would be al haymon that comes up with the guarantee before the event.
why would eddie allow team khan to take over production when he wouldnt allow eubank to take over?Cant imagine eddie allowing khan to take over the event.. as if after all these years khan v brook would flop, they know it will do 500k+ buys.
It is stupid they claim brook should take the offer and understand khan has to pay other people. That isn't kells fault khan has made bad business choices.....
Sounds kinda similar to what Floyd would do for his fights just not on the same scale. People should actually read this to see just how smart it was. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...yd-mayweather-produces-boxings-biggest-fights
Because he knows its the only way he can get it done....he ll still get paid a lot more for doing his usual job of promoting a fight than usual. It would still go down as a matchroom promotion. Or probably matchroom/khan promotion. What you see on the tv will be the same. Behind the scenes hes still getting his 20 percent. I m just not sure what he gets his 20 percent off but i m pretty sure thats what he takes. For all his work...the network/platform etc. Think thats his usual deal with ppv. Hes not giving fighters guarantees for the ppvs. Their getting splits i think. From the 100 percent. Hes getting his 20 percent whats left is the fighters 100 percent. Again no solid idea of how it works just what i m taking from his interviews etc. I d be interested to see what he gets that 20 percent off in this fight because if its the total fight revenue...it doesnt matter what percent brook gets or what his guarantee is. He ll still get the same. If its 20 percent of brooks end then hes got problems. He ll allow it because for doing the same job he always does he ll get paid much better than usual for it. He knows khans in a strong negotiating position whereas the eubanks werent.
Exactly right. Both khan and mayweather are with al haymon or mayweather was with him anyway. Its basically the al haymon business model. Floyd likes to talk about how hes the genius behind it all etc but he d still be getting a purse instead of owning the event if it wasnt for haymon.
When asked before the event he thought it could have went as high as 800,000 buys. Said it was the highest selling pre buys since froch v groves 2. Said hes looking for 500,000 buys to be satisfied. Plus kells viewing figures were massive on normal sky sports. Stands to figure he was looking for slightly above 400,000 for that fight. I m not saying he never got paid...but he expected higher sales. Pretty sure i ve seen a video of him saying it. Will have a look for it. Bearing in mind how many videos hes put out...might not be that easy to find tho.
I mean who still really cares about this fight? It's long past it's sell by date. Khan has actually got a point in saying there is no guarantee this is going to be a huge PPV sucsess. It will do good numbers sure but Khan knows his worth whether you like the guy or not. When you've got Brooks own promoter admitting Khan is the bigger name you've got problems? I mean why even say that regardless of if it's true or not? Hearn is admitted it so Khan is going to try it on. Can you blame him? It's just business Khan wants as much money as possible if he's going to get sparked out by a British rival
