For me the article has it all wrong. Its not about jealousy or anything like that. The fact was he was talking about himself and the greats of boxing and how he was on their level when it had been apparent to anyone with a boxing brain that he was badly chinny since at least the Limmond fight. People get pissed off when a guy that has acheived nothing is getting plaudits as if he were a world champion and all-conquering hero. We'd seen it all before with Audrey and fight fans got sick of it when they started thrusting Khant down our throats as something he wasnt and could clearly never be. This was going on while we had 7 or 8 REAL world champion getting exactly bugger coverage on terrestial telly. Where was the money to put those fights on for everyone? In Khant's pocket, thats where. No one is blaming Khant himself, he is what he is and anyone of us in his position would have done the same. What people are fed up with is the Fwank Warren joke machine tyring to feed us uncompetitive and unimportant fights of over protected fighters as if it were Ali-Foreman. As for comparing Khant and Benn well that is just a joke. Benn got his schooling from a world class fighter and at least Nigel was compititive till he gassed.
I haven't had such an enjoyable "I told you so moment" since Lewis-Golota. I'm not going to let anything as non-existent as my conscience get in the way of that.
Khan is still talking of himself as a world level operator, thats why i laughed my bolox off. Before telling anyone who will listen how great you are, try learning to fight first. he is a mug and everyone saw it coming.
**** the wee shite, if you talk big and put down others then fail miserably in backing it up then expect **** to be flying your way. He was a fraud. Then there's the PPV, family insisting on at leasy 350k etc...money issue...greedy ****s. Bad for boxing wankers like him.
I agree. Khan is a British Olympian. You'd think he was Gary Glitter. I stil support Khan. He's not perfect but he's a good bloke. In the end he fought the sort of puncher, everyone claimed he was ducking. It was a dumb fight but I'm still a fan.
We can have all the sympathy and empathy with Khan at this time, but ultimately, no hopefully, it will be his decision if he wants to give it another go. Not a pushy trainer, matchmaker, promoter or even his family. In truth, I'm not sure if coming back is especially a good idea at this stage... the article that started this thread points out that Benn stayed away (and presumably sorted his head and trained) after defeat and maybe that's what's required here. Then again there's defeat and defeat - and it has to be said that Benn was a totally different character with different character traits. Some can handle defeat and come back stronger, others can't and it is a life defining moment. On the evidence to date, I don't know if Khan is capable of bouncing back without a break or if he is capable of taking that kind of punishment. Did benn ever have a weak chin? Don't think so. he certainly took punishemnt but that often spurred him on. khan perhaps hasn't become used to hurting part of the game. IMHO. By the looks on their faces, his immediate family looked in a state of disbelief and shock. Perhaps they know what many of us suspect; that this could be the end. I'm sure he has a good heart but that doesn't give him a good chin and if you can't take a punch at this level I'm afraid you're going to get hurt. Stating the obvious I know. Plus, does he really need the money? Ignoring the bull**** wind-up crap, at least he can look back and say he gave it his best shot. Where's the shame in that? Many of us wouldn't be capable of going into the ring at any level; so let's at least allow him some respect. In my case I doubt if I'd be able to fit through the ropes! Then again, if there was pie and pint waiting on me... there's always a way! Time to lay off?
I think thats a bit harsh, its the same people at home who pay the little cocks wages and they're supposed to sit back and foot the bill quietly while he charges PPV for fighting a tomato can? I think not. Boxing is a sport and just because someone hasnt done it before does not mean they are some sort of weak person who doesnt know what guts or determination is.Some of the strongest people I know have never been involved in any combat activity. In general I reckon life throws a lot tougher situations at you than a few years as a boxer, amateur or pro. Steppin through the ropes is no easy feat but there are loads of things in life I would consider much tougher.
I can't remember hoards of enforcers forcing people to lash out the cash and watch the fight. You either buy into the hype or you don't, its like any other product, buy it or not, caveat emptor. Like I said a bit of a **** take is fine, but hate is a bit strong
Also lets not forget the promoter and broadcaster make a show PPV not the boxer. If Khans demands were unrealistic then Warren should have told him to **** off, Khan didn't have a lot of other options.
Lots of good aguments here. I think British Boxing Fans could easily warm to Khan if he took the defeat as a humbling experience. But will he? It doesn't sound like it from the way he has been speaking. Perhaps we'll have to see how he approaches his next fight. If he were to go back to basics, learn his defensive skills and tactics by working up though British and European level, would we embrace him as he reached again for the world stage? I mean, come on. His fights have the potential for real excitement, especially when he actually fights skilled opponents. The will he/won't he get sparked element will be enough to keep me coming back to watch him (though not on ppv). The guy is 21 and it is no surpise to me that it has all gone to his head. His mentality is so different fom other fighters his age. I think this loss is the wake up call he needs. Question is, will he learn from it?
Actually, if he'd either had a different personality OR fought with a clever strategy and won, I'd be supportive of him. This was the kind of opponent he needed to face to sharpen his defence; it's just 3 years of feather-fisted opponents have meant he's never developed the kind of footwork, glove-blocking and head movement required to survive against big punchers with Khan's kind of chin. Boxers with worse chins than Khan have had more success than he has because they were put in with big punchers and had the good sense to adapt to them.
well it's basically a well considered and common sense article isn't it? some on here don't do common sense though, it's got to be vitriol and diatribe.
well this post is a perfect example isn't? there's no fawning over khan at all from fearon, and he does question how far khan can go.me personally i don't give a particular **** about khan, although being british i wanted him to do well but i think like most actual boxing fans i expected him to get sparked sooner or later.as for him talking himself up,well wow a boxer talking trash, now there's a revelation, where have people been the last hundred and odd years,i don't know of one who doesn't.i just don't get the sheer enjoyment people are getting out of this.
