do fill me in on who is the bet prospect in Britian ? and dont say Mitchell coz he after 25 fights he is just about to step up against a decent domestic level fighter
Gamboa is light years ahead of Khan and when does age come into whether someone is considered a prospect or not? In boxing a prospect by definition is somebody who has a potentially broad prospect of success anticipated- age doesn't come into it.
Amir Khan is probably the best prospect in the UK but some may argue that David Haye is still a prospect.... he's hardly peaked yet and is about to make his mark at heavy.
u can say the same about Amir is that he has hardly peaked and he will probably be at his best when he is 24 or 25.
wow...ignorance. gamboa has been pro less than a year. mainly due to the fact he is cuban and had to defect in order to become a professional. if you don't consider him a better prospect you clearly haven't seen him. he's practically ready to face top ten opposition and he's only had 8 fights.
Although Gamboa is 26 you have to take into consideration he only turned pro less than a year ago. I think his first 8 opponents have won approx 80% of their combined 180+ fights. He has achieved back to back stoppage victories against former featherweight title contenders in a timeframe of only 11 days. Compare his resume to Khan's first 8 fights and this alone will tell you why many rate him a better prospect.
Gamboa is still at the start of his career just because he is 26 makes no difference. I can think of many other top class prospects who are far better than Khan around the world and im sure many others could add extra names to that list. Berto is easily a better prospect than Khan but in an harder division. I do not hate Khan I just hate his stupid fans who defend him past heavan and earth. Really they should shut as well as he himself untill he has faced a serious threat. He may well have fought decent technical boxers along the way but in reality he has been up against a lesser threat of an opponent since his Limond fight. Non have been guys capable of testing Khan in any shape or form. As for Mitchell I would never mention him. The kid is another well protected hype job getting the fights that suit him and make him look good. But fair play to the lad for finally stepping up and facing an opponent who is not only of good domestic class but also a bit of a banger. The type of guy Khan is allergic to. As for better British prospect I would not pick a guy like Haye because he is already a world title holder and has faced the best he could all the way through his career.
For me, a prospect is a young guy with a great future ahead of him. Gamboa's at the age where a lot of guys are in their prime and winning title belts. I suppose you called Audley Harrison a prospect after the Olympics too?
After the Olympics he was a huge prospect but turned out to be a nob. I suppose you do not rate Povetkin and Solis? And will down play Frankie Gavin due to his late pro turn when it happens. The cuban defectors are a great influx and no matter what age are very good prospects. You could even say Skelton was a good prospect because he proved he was the best British fighter and got a world title shot even though he did not start pro untill his thirties.
For me its about the probability of future success irrespective of age. In any case 26 years isn't exactly old!
a prospect is someone relatively new to the pro game with a great future ahead of him regardless of age. audley was a prospect, but like many prospects before him failed to make it. its perfectly ok for you to have your own definition of "prospect"...just don't be suprised that 99% of the boxing world doesn't agree with you.
I agree. Which is why I'd generally call the younger guys 'prospects'. Khan has 5 years on Gamboa, 5 years to achieve more, 5 years more to improve his skills. And I take issue with a 26 year old being called a better prospect than a 21 year old....if two guys are of similar talent, which is up for debate, then the 26 year old should be quite far ahead of the 21 year old.
