bull****,. khan is one of the sharpest hitters. khan can roll with the punches and he can move his head and feet more. i bet you will see more of that in his next fight.

Khan is certainly flawed, there's no denying it. But if he's as hopeless as you make out, then he should stand very little chance against the much lauded Timothy Bradley when they finally meet.

Let's see how that pans out.

As I said, he's lucky that Bradley isn't a good finisher, nor a big puncher.

I have said that his natural attributes will see him through against a fair few fighters (and already has)

But those stylistic deficiencies are not MY OPINION: they are facts, to ny discerning viewer :good

    Well, which is it?

In quite a few threads I’ve noticed you and others say, with full confidence, that Khan will lose to Bradley. And here you are saying Khan’s lucky that Bradley isn’t a good finisher – insinuating that Khan, through his natural talent, will eclipse him.

I, for one, was surprised to see him get passed Maidana, and will be even more surprised to see him beat Bradley.

Khan has a very limited defence, his footwork can be sloppy, and he's not particularly skilled. Hell, when a fighter like Maidana can time and counter you, you know you have problems. It's his speed and heart that often carries him through fights.

I disagree with the idea of his jab being a 'myth', though. That's rubbish. He has a super jab -- long, fast, and sharp. He doesn't often apply it well, I agree (in fact, I think he was throwing a lazy jab when Maidana clipped him in round 10 and started his troubles...I'll have to check) but it's a genuinely nice punch in his arsenal. If he learns to utilise it more, without getting lazy/sloppy, then he could really become a better boxer. The problem is that he's always been more of an aggressive type, an attacking fighter -- even in the Olympics, Kindelan was using that aggression to smoothly counter him again and again. It's troublesome, because Khan seems more fitted for a 'boxer' style -- he's tall, fragile, super quick, throws good flurries and has good reach, and he's not a power puncher. Unfortunately he often tries to fight in a way that opposes his actual traits/abilities, although he WAS trying to box (not fight) Maidana when he got clipped in the tenth...

I hope we see an improved defence against McCloskey.

Firstly, Khan is not "one of the sharpest hitters".

If he can do all this, why have we never seen it?

    Great post.

That's been my main criticism of him ever since the beginning. He likes to fight in a style which he isn't built for. If they instilled the mentality of a boxer in him from the very beginning, I think we would have had a better Khan.

And, if I remember correctly, he was just simply backing away from Maidana when he was caught in the 10th. I don't think he pawed with a lazy jab. His guard was low, and he just wasn't concentrating.

they're 2 completely different type of fighters, morales learnt to roll like that because he isn't as tall as khan and had to fight in the inside a lot.

    A couple of things....
    • How well you can close down the distance on a fighter (Hatton)
    • How well you can maintain a distance (Hopkins, Mayweather)
    • How well you can punch whilst on the move. Do you always have to stop and throw powershots, or can you throw them whilst balancing on either foot (Pac and Roy Jones). The same would go for defence, too.

Great post, the application of his jab is a better way of putting what I posted :good

As I say, people think he's a quality boxer because he was an Olympian. When, even then he overwhelmed people with fast handed offence.

i understand people saying khan is built for boxing on the outside, and that he should play to his stregnths and avoid getting too close at all times, but realistically fighters will learn to close him down and land shots on the ropes. im not suggesting he should employ mayweathers shoulder role or dirrells head movement but you cant tell me someone with khans ability isn't capable of learning some defensive tricks!

against maidana there realy wasn't anything in the way of footwork or head movement to avoid punches and he paid the price. even if he moved his head back a few times leaning on the ropes he would of avoided some of those vicious upper cuts.

also he could learn how to position himself in the centre of the ring using lateral movement like morales did, inturn avoiding maidanas straight right.

khan will never be a perfectly skilled boxer but if he adds just a few defensive techniques he will be far more dangerous.

Andre Dirrell is the best example of head movement you could think of?

The problem with Khan was before he started training with Roach his defence and head positioning/ foot positioning after throwing shots was poor, also keeping that right hand low.

From this state Khan has improved alot, but still has some to go. Khan will never be a great defensive boxer, but he can be a great offensive fighter.

Fighters like Maidana, pressure fighter's put Khan on the back foot, Khan is not really a back foot fighter, plus his footwork going backwards is poor at times, but in these tough fights areas which he needs to improve on can be highlighted. Under Roach Khan has more or less had it his own way, so fights like Maidana will give Roach things to focus on and work on with Khan.

I think Khan is more suited to fighting boxer type fighters, I think Khan's jab will be a key weapon in his career and he needs to improving because its so fast and it helps him set up attacks and work off it as well.

I also cant see why people keep stating there is still a problem with Khan's chin?, what more does he have to do? fight David Haye?

Khan since moving upto 140 is yet to be even dropped, yet at 135 light hitters like Limond and Gomez were dropping him, watch the Maidana fight in the first 3 rounds when Maidana was fresh he caught Khan with clean bombs with no effect, Khan's poor chin was clearly down to Weight Draining and poor weight/muscle balance.

Khan's chin will further improve at 147 where more weight can go into his still skinny legs.
