Amir Khan, still looking for an opponent at junior welterweight, told a British newspaper that he expects to move up to the welterweight division and face Floyd Mayweather Jr. sometime in 2012.
And, naturally, both he and trainer Freddie Roach say they believe he’d win the fight.
“For me to be considered the best, I have to go in there against the best,” Khan told The Telegraph. “I want to be right up there fighting at elite level, to show people how good I am. I believe I have the tools to beat Mayweather. I have faster hand speed than him, and a better punch.
“No one is denying that he is technically brilliant and very smart. But I’ll get there because I have the best trainer in the world in Freddie Roach. I think Mayweather will happen in 2012.”
Said Roach: “There are two boxers I train who could beat Floyd Mayweather. One of them is Manny Pacquiao. The other one is Amir Khan.”
First things first, though. Khan, the WBA junior welterweight titleholder, still wants to unify the 140-pound titles this year. The question is: Who will he fight?
Timothy Bradley has told The Desert Sun that he will not fight Khan on July 23, the original target date for the fight.
Marcos Maidana reportedly is eager for a rematch but his stock went down to some degree in his victory over Erik Morales in April. Plus, Khan barely survived Maidana’s power once. Why tempt fate twice?
Another option is Zab Judah but Khan said he isn’t crazy about fighting an opponent who he believes will be reluctant to engage with him. Kahn said Morales turned down an offer to fight him. And Robert Guerrero, although he'd have to move up from lightweight, has been mentioned as a possibility.
Other than that, there are no immediate big-money fights at 140 pounds available.
One option Khan will not consider at any time, he said, is a showdown with gym mate Pacquiao.
“There will never be a fight between Manny and me,” he told The Telegraph. “We respect each other too much. It wouldn’t feel right.”

Piece of slime. His neck was hanging by the nerve when he fought Maidana who's hardly competent technically and he is talking about Mayweather. These are Roach's techniques of keeping this amoeba in the headlines, just call Mayweather's name.Cant wait for his next fight

This is the master plan, Floyd will be 35yrs next year, Khan will be reaching his prime at 25yrs.

Speed Kills (And Khan is faster and bigger than Floyd)

I quite like Khan and I detest Floyd, but Amir would not win one round in that fight.

Khan needs to do less talking and let his fist do the talking for HIM.

He's supposed to think that way. I expect fighters to think they are the best.

Seriously though, Mayweather would kick his ass. Team Khan isn't dumb enough to put him in there with Mayweather, who is light years more skilled and experienced than Amir.

See I'm a Khan fan and a big fan of Floyd but Khan's shere work rate and volume of punches would win him rounds! Khan has shown he can carry that tempo for 12 rounds. I can admit at this stage i think he would loose and it would be by ko! Floyd would counter him coming in a bit like he did with Ricky. Give it 12 months i see it being a good fight! But for some reason Khan is southpaw mad at the momment. I would like to see Khan at 147 see how he looks then because if he improves like Ortiz did with the extra weight Khan will be a demon! Lets see Khan with Mosley & cotto at that weight then consider Floyd!

    Good points,

Khan's speed and jab would offset a naturally defensive fighter like Floyd onto the backfoot and he will be looking to pick Khan off, problem for Floyd is though Khan hand speed be unlike anything he has seen since facing Zab, and we know for the first few rounds Zabs hand speed gave Floyd problems.

This would be a good fight and not as one-sided as it looks on paper.
If Khan's reflexes can detect Mayweather's looping left hook before he pulls it off then this fight is going the distance for sure and would be competitive through out. Have to appreciate Khan's ambitions and mindset for this.

Sometimes its not how skilled you are, its how you apply yourself, Khan has the greatest tool in boxing 'Speed' when used in the right way can unlock/upset any fighters plan and defence.

Roach would have a great plan for Floyd.
