When you clearly have a china chin like Khan, what you dont do is leave yourself so open defensively for one thing. What you also do not do is then carry on fighting once badly hurt, rather than holding and running down the clock to recover.

Wlad had the benefit of being much bigger, stronger, and taller than his opponents as well as being technically very good. When he linked up with Steward he essentially did a copy and paste of Lennox Lewis' gameplans.

Khan isn't bigger nor is he stronger than any of his opponents, nor will he when he eventually has to go to 147 if he wants a big money fight. That means he can't just jab and plan to use just that to keep his opponents off of him.

 

Add to the fact that while fighters today aren't as skilled as fighters of yesterday in every weight class, HW boxing has become a joke, as soon as decent fighters in Haye and Adammek moved up, outside of the klits they became the best HWs. And while Khan has yet to fight a proven elite he still doesn't get the benefit of fighting against the likes of Fat Peter, 41 yr old Thompson, Mormeck, Austin etc.
