there's no doubt Khan has great skill, and there have been many a good fighter who have successful careers with slightly less than perfect chins. But those fighters with the skills and questionable chins in the past who have had success have done so because they have the power to keep the other guys at bay. The question is: does Khan have enough power to be the best at 140?
No. Paulie was never hurt. Khan landed lots of clean shots that had no effect. He has found his level.
I don't think it's clear yet how much power Khan has or doesn't have. He clearly has decent power, but how much better than that we'll have to wait and see. He just stopped Malignaggi, who has a very solid chin as Cotto could tell you, with his jab. He wasn't looking like he was going to knock him spark out any stage, but stopping a fighter as tough as Malignaggi through an accumulation of jabs and long range two punch combinatons indicates that at the very least he has some pop.
Khan fought a cagey fight against a slick, clever boxer. Khan wasnt trying to blast Paulie out, just to peck away at him with the jab and the odd pot-shot, and to gradually break him down. He'd have found far more oppertunities for big shots, especially on the counter, against a cruder opponent. Khan would destroy Maidana. The fight wouldnt go 6 rounds. He just outboxed, by a country mile, one of the slickest fighters in the division. That alone should worry anyone else.
Paulie's a hard man to hit cleanly.... He rolls with the punches too much, and always leans back... Hes like trying to nail jelly to the wall....
He legitimately wobbled Paulie with a couple of jabs in R7-8... But even then it's hard to tell how hard he can hit. We can use some of his earlier KOs as a reference I guess, as irrelevant as a fight against some scrub like Salita might be.
