IMO, Amir Khan has the style to beat Mayweather, He's taller, potentially as fast, great fitness, throws combinations, and works everything behind a solid jab. Not saying he definetly would win, but think he woud have a better shot than most. Thoughts?
Manny , floyd and Khan all my fav so I don't mind they fight each other but Khan don't have a chin to compete with either guy.
if i had to guess, i'd say if it went the full 12, khan would win. However, his chin is stil suspect, and floyd definetly hits hard enough to score a KO. He's so accurate.
i wish people would lay off this nonsense. khan is still green and has a lot of improvements to make to even stand a chance with the big 2 and their is still doubts over his chin. Khan might get their skill wise if he improves his footwork, combinations, accuracy and pick his shots better when an opponent his hurt(same every time, he just flurries them with arm punches until ref steps in) He has to prove to himself he can take a decent punch from a hard/accurate hitter because if he ever steps in the ring with mayweather or pac he is going to get hit flush multiples times no matter how his defence has improved.. Just let the guy carry on improving and focus on the jww at this stage. Madiana, alexander, bradley, ortiz are great fights for khan to focus on. Berto/williams should be the two gunning for mayweather/pac never materialises.
I'd have to respectfully (and strongly!) disagree. Whilst I do accept the notion that Khan will be very difficult to beat on points, this only really applies to the fighters that are in his level of class (the Maidanas, Alexanders and Bradleys). Floyd, however, is a different animal. He'll not only beat him on points, but he'll toy with him in so many different ways. That's if he fights the Khan of today. But in 12 months time, assuming.... - Khan develops the way we hope he will. - Grabs the scalps of Maidana/Alexander/Bradley. - Proves he's equally as effective at 147. - Floyd's ring rust seriously catches up with him. .....then, and only then, would I give Khan a chance of giving Floyd some problems.
He's not ready yet/if ever. As someone has already mentioned, he's a touch one dimensional at the minute...he needs a lot more bouts under his belt. He's got great potential with his jab, and may have the speed advantage over Mayweather...but as soon as Floyd times that jab, it's over for Khan.
Khan has a lot of improvement and refinement to do before trying Mayweather. He looked sloppy, inaccurate, and not that coordinated in his last fight. Give Khan 4 fights after Maidana to improve.
Like Paul Williams he has the intangibles in terms of physical stature, but not the Boxing brain, probably never will have to compete with someone on the level of Mayweather, infact the biggest knock I have always had on Khan, is not so much his chin, its his naivety.
Definately. Although this will improve with time. I was impressed with the patience and adjustments he made to nail Paulie's movement.
I do agree that a style similar to Khan's would give Mayweather fits... a fleet-footed fighter with speed and a good jab and a good know how of keeping a guy at range would give anyone problems quite franky. I don't, however, think that Khan could actually beat Floyd Mayweather if that's what your'e getting at.
Well that's it right there. As the OP says, he's got the style to allow him to do better than most. But can he beat him? No. Certainly not. Not tough enough to eat the amount of clean shots he would from a precision puncher like Floyd. Nor is he experienced or intelligent enough in the ring.
In a nutshell - NO ! Pacquiao has the best chance to beat Mayweather, style & talent wise... but even then Id bet very big on a Mayweather UD.
Yeah, infact something that I noticed that he did specifically, was when he threw the right hand and overshot it, instead of pulling back out, he would fire the upjab behind it and catch Malignaggi pulling out, catch him because fighters like Malignaggi like to roll and pivot away from the right hand, but when you follow up with the up-jab instead of pulling out, it usually lands against someone with that posture. Roach's tactical nous should, in theory, start to rub off on him.
