Well, if all the bogus hype about him being the next De La Hoya or whatever was retracted, and he suddenly grew a set of whiskers, that might be a start.
I had a quick look on one of his video's and saw a comment about 'spiks' but no racism directed at Khan. I suppose if I made it the main purpose of my life I could probably find someone calling him a 'Paki' but I really have better things to do.
John Murray was a bit cocky himself, claiming he could KO Khan in 2 rounds no problems, and hes fought bums compared to Khan, just compare the records together.
What annoy's me about these Olympians is that they generate too big a following amongst non-boxing fans too quickly. It's one thing saying that boxing needs characters who transend the sport, like Tyson or Ali, but these characters seem to produce the things bad about boxing. Cherry picking etc. A lot of non-boxing bans don't realise winning Olympic medals doesn't count for much in the pro's. They think these guys have already proved themselves before their first fight.
hey billyk, i haven't even said anything about race yet, but here i go....no i won't start. It isn't nice to hear anything said about any race, Khan does seem to get the brunt of it, at least 90-95% of people on here have genuine reasons to hate the guy, 5% you never know! My main point, what I don't understand is, isn't that hes disliked, but its the extent to which people hate him. Has he really upset people that much by having a **** jaw. I was also one who thought he may needed to be KO'd to stop all the Khan Hype, and obviously he hasn't completley come back in flying colours, but a good stoppage against a poor fighter, and beating a great, no matter what fashion. Race, for Khan, will always play a role, due to world events may be, I don't know for definate, but I dont think thats the sole reason.

I guess I had a go at you specifically but it was more intended at those on ESB who play the race card every time you disagree with them, which you don't seem to be one of so sorry and all that. There probably is a minority who dislike Khan because of his race, but you will see that with most races. The guy earlier was saying that there are racist comments on Khans youtube videos, but there are also videos of compilations of Black fighters knocking out White ones and vice versa. People really must have **** all to do, and even less going on in their heads to put one of those together. Regarding Khan though, he may get a lot of hate on boxing forums but he gets more love amongst the general public than he should. As I just hinted at a minute ago, that's probably or all the wrong reasons too. Doing well at the olympics endeers him to a lot of the public in a way that even winning a world title wouldn't. Far, far more people in Britain know who Khan is than Froch for example, and think of him as a national hero and great champion. I know that's not really his fault but he seems to beleive his own publicity at times. I think he would be more popular if he showed a bit more humility about the Prescott defeat instead of saying it was a simple mistake.....you don't expect him to say "My jaw is made of china" but a "He hit harder than I thought" wouldn't go wrong - it's as though it's all about Amir Khan and never who he's fighting. Same with Barrera, even when he was asked about the cut he rubber eared the question and said it was easy again. Maybe some people go a bit overboard with the hate but he gets well compensated and brings a lot of it on himself.
No, believe it or not I don't even bother to read the comments section on youtube. Hardly relevant when we're talking about the attitudes of ESB posters. Of course there are a few idiots but the majority are posting feasible explanations as why they think Khan has deficiencies as a fighter. They should be allowed to do this without having ridiculously unfounded racist allegations thrown at them every time they express an opinion.
Agreed in part. I don't know if you read what i wrote on the other thread, but was with some pro boxer last night, he giving him alot of racist abuse, I was looking around embarassed hoping no Pakistani guy hears this! Also don't read comments on youtube and make an opinion on the public as its often 14-15 year old kids trying to be offensive and getting attention. Also billyk I don't think you thought that so no worries! I have been saying it a bit, but hearing peoples opinions, kind of made me think, I used to think that as well! Good point, he should have said something about Prescotts power after the fight thought, thats true, am I backtracking well!?
Yeah, I saw it earlier at work but can only post when my boss isn't looking. If it's getting a bit cheap listening to "you're a racist" then it's still low listening to people who actually are and it does make me think a bit about Khan. One of the things I don't like about him is that he doesn't seem to involve himself in the Brittish boxing scene - he's Amir Khan, his own 'scene'. You do wonder how much of that is down to Khan's arrogance and profile and how much is down to just not wanting to listen to that nonsense. I used to think Froch was an arrogant git looking for a big pay-day against Calzaghe but the more I see him on ITV4 etc talking about rising fighters who he rates and stuff, the more I'm warming to him (incidentally Froch may be a good fighter but he is the worst tipster I have ever seen, anyway I digress). Would be nice to see that kind of thing from Khan but as I say, you don't know if that's because he's not welcome or whatever. I dunno if the boxer you met maybe sees Khan as a potential future opponent or is a bit jealous but I can't really defend him, and I suppose Khan's head must be full of nonsense too if he's constantly told how great he is by the people around him. I remember when I was a kid and Mark Walters signed for Rangers, becomming the first black player to play in Scotland. I was in a car going home rom a Celtic game when it was on the Radio that he'd signed and would be making hid debut against Celtic. Fully grown men started punching the air and talking about whether to throw banana's (that being the standard fruit to throw at a black player,) or oranges at him (oranges it was thought may be more appropriate for a Rangers player because of the orange order). Banana's seemed to win out on the day of the game. It never seemed to occur to them that he might actually be a good player - and was as it turned out. My generation pretty much cast that aside because of John Barnes etc, not because he said much about racism just because everyone wanted to watch him and try and play like him. Ask most Celtic fans now to name their avourite player of the last two decades and Henrik Larsson will get 99% of the votes. Ultimately I think that's the best way to end racism. If Khan does actually become a great champion then it will put most of the bull**** to bed. Just a shame he's a *****. (Yeah nice backtracking, but mine is pretty good too you must admit).
Why does he show so much disrespect to the top British fighters, WHY SWERVE THEM, they deserve a shot. dont go round saying your the best fighter when you cant clean up your domestic division, its nothing about the colour of is skin. This content is protected has the right tools good hand speed not a bad boxing brain, but all world champions have, wait for it, A GOOD CHIN. But apart from that i wish him all the best.
Fair play you are on my wave of thought, I hate the race card that people keep coming up with. I would respect Khan more if he cleared up the British ranks first. You need a good jaw in this game simple as, and when your at the top the world class boxers will hit you hard.
Good point. Racism is a lot of places, just thinking about it, the ****** chants, was it to Shaun-Wright Philips in Spain? How about this, is just a thought, a few years back, it used to be quite equal the racism to blacks and asians in Britain. Now however blacks have become acceptable in Britain, yet asians, with alot of whats going on around the world, haven't quite? Froch on the other hand made a mistake of trying to go after Calzaghe too much, I'd admit that, but I never really liked Calzaghe too much even before all this happened. Khan needs to earn respect, thats true, I think he's watching to much Prince Naseem, because he has become a lot more cocky, still I don't think as much as other boxers. The Barrera fight was the worst I've heard him, saying it was easy was a bit disrespectful of a great fighter. And yes backtracking is always good!
Yeah, I know what you mean, I don't think it's just the war on terror nonsense that led to Asians becoming the more abused group, but it is a factor. I think there has been more crossover if thats the right word between blacks and whites in the last 20 years or so. It's hard to think of many Asian icons of any kind that have been popular outside the Asian community. No big name footballers, no real music stars, comedians or anything. Cricket is about the only thing that I can think of where they are well represented. Most kids now have black and white hero's but hardly any Asian ones. Dunno, maybe it's just the places I've been but blacks and whites seem to mix more with each other than Asians do. I'm not saying that's reason to hate them, just that people (idiots,) will hate what they don't know and Asians are maybe a more distinct community. I'm not backtracking that much as to say that's why Khan gets stick on here though. On Froch, I don't know if Mick Hennessy was advising him to call out Calzaghe but it never made him popular. I'm accusing Hennessy because Junior Witter was doing the same thing with Ricky Hatton and it had much the same effect. It's probably no coincidence that they had the same promoter. I don't think it's a clever move to try to make an enemy/rival of such a popular fighter because it alienates their fans. I reckon Froch will get more popular now Calzaghe's of the scene. He seems to like a scrap which is always good, and I reckon that win or lose he'll get a lot of respect for going to America to fight Taylor - he earned a lot in the Pascal fight. Of all the fights that are comming up thats probably the one I'm most looking forward to.
