They made this fight in DC because as they found out with the slightly disappointing attendance in Las Vegas for Judah, Khan is not the superstar draw in the States that HBO and Golden Boy want him to be. Khan is the type of fighter who in consultation with his promoter wants to maximize his income and his exposure. Nothing is wrong with this, but in this case it also doesn't really make him "the type of fighter" deserving of extended praise.

I find the constant attempts by Khan himself and especially HBO and Golden Boy to canonize him for doing things that aren't really that extraordinary for any boxer quite tiresome (see also the incessant descriptions of the Maidana fight as something he actively sought out to prove his chin when he was in fact making a mandatory defense) .
