He needs to re-evaluate his future IMO, i was a big fan of khan i thought after the prescott defeat he was humbled and learned some humility but after beating maidana, he was increasingly growing back into the naive individual believing the hype once again, even after peterson, it should have been a huge wake up call, i think he alone dug himself into the predicament he now faces. This is going to sound harsh but khan right now is a loser, he's lost 3 fights against opponents who he was supposed to look good against, prescott was brought not because he was good but because his trainer at the time knew how beatable he was, peterson and garcia were just farewell fights from 140. I think there are plenty of guys around the weight that would beat khan. i hope he proves me wrong though.
3 of his last 5 fights have be a life and death struggle against none elite type opponents and he comes off as second best. He's not the fighter he thinks he is.
temperament of a brawler yet has one of the worst chins in boxing You can only use your speed to masquerade as a boxer for so long. There's always going to be guys that know how to time speed at the higher levels.
Yeah, his inability to develop as a boxer in the last 18 or so months, coupled with the gruelling fights he's been inolved in during that period, means he could be on a slight downward slope already.
+1 We've seen the best of Khan come and go, in my opinion. That streak from Barrera to Judah will be the high point of his career.
i think he's reached a point where he has no excuses. You could give him the benefit of the doubt against prescott and say he was a late replacement and he was just a young kid. You can blame some of the officiating in peterson but what now? Hes been found out a third time. I thought after the peterson defeat they would have re engineered him into a better fighter. But it seems like his learning curve plateaued, its hard to see him comeback as a force especially with the dangerous opponents that exist in and around that weight class. hes going to need something like 3 or 4 learning fights and then get thrown in there with someone solid but i doubt thats going to happen, hard seeing khan fight on an undercard of a big show.
this may well be true. the kid can't take a punch plain and simple. that's not going to change. there is nothing that he, roach or any other trainer can do to help him take a punch better. i will say though that, while i used to dislike him, i've been coming around to respecting that he's fought who's been put in front of him, took the tests at the opponent's request only to have him fail, offered bradley 50/50, fought peterson in d.c...i mean, the kid tries his heart out. but yeah, he may never reach the hights that were projected by his hype.
I'll go with Kellz on his superior boxing ability. He's going to neutralize Amir's jab wif his own jab. Amir is basic and done once you take away his jab
Hes not done hes still young. A win against solid comp and hes back. Ready for another shot at the elites. Judah made a career out of this.
He has no chin but he can still compete at the top level. He probably is able to even beat a Bradley.
I do think he can pick up a World title again, I guess that still counts as the top level. He will never be Elite level, I think that's pretty clear now, if we didn't know already. He has Elite handspeed, but that's about it. Problem with Khan now is, mentally. No matter how much he will try to convince people his chin can hold up to decent shots, he himself will be much, much harder to convince. A recent example of this, Roy Jones Jr's last bout (I'm not saying Khan is completely shot, far from it). Every time Jones got caught, he was expecting to drop on the floor, possibly unconscious, even though his opponent couldn't punch. He was wary against a none puncher, and like I said, his confidence in taking any sort of shot has now vanished. Khan probably isn't at that stage yet, but he will probably be dropped again in his career...and these thoughts will be creeping in to his head. Khan's style will change when he comes back. They will try to keep him in the safety first mode he beat Kotelnik with. But even then, he had flaws in that style. Khan's future opponents will either attempt to walk him down with relentless pressure, or sit back and wait for him to overreach. Khan needs to find the right medium and improve his judge of distance if he is to have success in the future.
if he proves me wronga nd learns how to adapt with new techniques then he can achieve more things..but as of now and if continues to fight like that, i cant see him succeeding.
