In my opinion there's a certain threshold that you reach, concerning a fighters speed, where it becomes impossible to measure how fast they are (relative to another fast fighter) without some kind of scientific study...

And Khan has reached that threshold.

Saying he's faster or slower than Zab Judah and RJJ at this point is asinine and stupid, you can't possibly know that. They're all incredibly fast, and it's how you use that speed that matters the most anyway.

he's not in a class by himself but he's certainly in a class with a VERY elite few.

    All relative to their weights

    Roy Jones
    SRR
    SRL
    Camacho
    Taylor
    Patterson
    Ali
    Tyson
    Pac
    Floyd

Handspeed is heavily dependent on many factors. Weight of the fighter, type of punch, commitment in the punch, situation in which the punch is employed (single shot, combination, counter, etc), pre-set combinations vs improvised ones, accuracy, overall damage, and more.

Not to take anything away from Khan, because he is quick, but there are plenty of guys who can shoe shine with incredible speed (Freitas to the body, for example, no power there, but he can hit a professional 8 or 9 times with those body flurries). Meldrick, Comacho, and Pernell could all throw that fast but they sacrificed power for speed.

Leonard, Mosley,Pac, and even Floyd and Zab (though often one at a time for those last two) will hit you fast and every shot can hurt you (with the exception of Mosley's pawing jab, but lets ignore that)

At :15 s in on this video I land 10 body shots on my opponent in two seconds, and I am just an amatuer. There's a lot of fast guys who can shoe shine, but to do it with power is something else (and yes, Amir can hit!!!!! but those flurries are not the devastating punches his 1-2-1-2 slightly slower combos are.)

(This was a smoker at 15 seconds in with no weigh in, I was 128, my opponent 154 but 6'2'', ugh. sucked)

But the point is Mosley can land those shots with power against very good boxers like Genaro Hernandez, not a plodding kind of guy like Madaina. But there are crap amatuers who can throw fast as hell, but they will never hit a good pro. Being able to time your shots and throw fast with power against elite competition (ie - if khan can land that against Bradley, Shane, Pac, then yeah, I would say he is getting up there with the quickest of his time.)

Mosley's fighting Pacquiao and Khan is still fighting @ 140.

I don't think Mosley's going to be fighting any Golden Boy fighters (not counting Manny, GBP simply has a stake in him) for awhile.

I doubt the human eye can distinguish the speed levels between fighters that belong in the elite class of speed punchers

    ever? i doubt it...

better question would be "who is the fastest with something on it"....maidana look a lot fresher than khan after the fight...

yeah love patterson. ive read ali autobiography and theres a hole chapetr on him. he suffered from depression and he feared large crowds. after fights he would sit on his own in a darkened room. i think if he had a bit of ali's confidence he could of been far greater.

well the only one we can realy compare is pac with khan because they train and spar together. and according to freddie roach amir hits faster. he also says amir wins the first 4 rounds against pac man. but that manny takes over after and beats amir. speed isnt the be all and end all. its how you use it
