does anyone remember calzaghe 'ducking' froch? or hatton 'ducking' witter? and know we have khan 'ducking' brook.... so what's the common denominator in all three of these match-ups? three well-established fighters, with better options/fights available, getting 'called out' by three lesser-established fighters, who haven't taken half the chances to make a name for themselves. it's up to the lesser-known fighters to beat credible opponents to get the attention of their more lauded counterparts, and it will reach a point where the fight makes sense on several levels.
This is true with Calzaghe and it's still too early for Khan especially since he possibly has mega fights ahead of him. It is not the case with Hatton. Witter was blatantly ducked when Hatton promised Witter he will give him a fight. Right when the perfect moment was there for the 2 to matchup Hatton decided to go with a more "lucrative" fight against Juan Lazcano.
but as soon as hatton left war+en, he was interested in one thing and one thing only - making bigger fights in the US and finding out how good he was. sure, there was a time before this when hatton could have fought witter, but while hatton was off earning fights with Floyd and pacquiao, witter was fading off into oblivion and doing nothing to raise his profile outside of Britain. there's plenty of time for brook not to make that same mistake. fighting porter was a step in the right direction, but if brook slides back into 'bad habits' (fighting b-graders getting rich at home without actually moving his career forward), then don't be surprised if he keeps calling for this fight for some time to come
