You could say that, but I think where people have the problem is that they weren't in open combat so to speak. The ref played a part.

    I'm undecided on the matter

yeah and if floyd had crumpled to the floor after being butted and the fight either went to cards or classed as a no contest, all would be saying floyd was a coward..

i dunno...i mean, being in the center of the ring, touching gloves and having the ref say box...they should all be clues that you may be in open combat...not to mention he got hit with the choppy left...he should have realized they were fighting and covered up

now...added to that, expecting the guy you just purposefully headbutted in the face to want to hug you several times during a boxing match is a little peculiar

My first fight, I got hit in the hip/ass, stepped back, dropped my hands to fix my trunks and got blasted in the face three times. I grabbed the guy and walked him back and we kept fighting.

Protect yourselves at all times. Even in the subnovice amateur ranks this is what you do. It's illegal for amateurs to touch gloves during the bout, because there's nothing to stop one guy from hitting the other while he's trying to get some love.

Nothing dirty or illegal. In a fight you take advantage of your opponent every chance you get.
