McCloskey was never going to win on points, his only chance was to catch Khan unawares and knock him out. Khan never really looked like stopping him.
Not great. Had too much speed for McCloskey early on as one would expect, but he definitely started to breathe heavily at the end of the 5th. Khan never really hurt McCloskey and even though he was winning all the rounds the fight was still competitive. I just felt that McCloskey's time was going to come in the second half of the fight - he usually gets stronger as his fights go on. If it had gone on I think there was a realistic chance that McCloskey could have stopped a tiring Khan. Let's face it Khan was almost counted out against Willie Limond so I wouldn't be at all surprised if McCloskey put him on his arse too. The stoppage was absolutely disgraceful.
nothing new in this fight. 1 dimensional fighter. Needs to learn to pick his shots and be more dynamic but Roach can only teach so much. Khan is not a natural boxer.
Good point about picking shots. I think he looks sort of amateurship at times because he has dazzling handspeed and combinations, but he really doesn't sit down on his shots too much.
He looked how he did in the first 6 rounds against Malignaggi. Understandably, he found McCloskey's style a little awkward. But he slowly began finding the mark more and more as the fight went on. McCloskey was doing nothing other than duck continuously to make Khan miss.
Not great in all honesty but McCloskey looked like a scared rabbit in the headlights and was more concerned making Khan miss and not throwing anything back. Khan seemed to be reaching for his shots (something Roach told him NOT to do in sparring, as seen on Sky last week) a lot, as if he was reacting to the crowd rather than concentrating on his own game. Talk of fighting Mayweather is crazy. Bradley is a logical next step. People on here seem to be forgetting Bradley looked just as awful against Alexander...
Paul is an awkward southpaw and is very negative. He didn't throw much and was just not engaging. Amir won every single round.
Khans far from iron chinned we all know that but claiming that as it would be a given is a little harsh, he took plenty nice shots off a power puncher like Maidana im sure 1 clean shot (that never happened anyway) off an average puncer like McCloskey wouldnt of definatly ended the fight.
Khan is what 23 or 24? I didn't watch the fight but that guy definitely has a lot of room to improve.
