A southpaw playing 'safety first' is difficult for anyone to break down, Klitschko-Ibragimov for example. Also Khan spars with Pacquaio, I think he has more than an idea how to fight southpaws
Of course he was tiring; that's why he was breathing so heavily at the end of the fifth round. Khan is very tight at the weight. No question.
I thought McCloskey was fighting his fight, Khan was throwing a lot of shot's and not connecting with many, and was bound to tire in the later rounds. McCloskey was losing the rounds but they were close, McCloskey did catch Khan with a few shots and was definately the more efficient of the two. If the fight had gone on, I feel McCloskey had a definate chance of doing somthing in the last two rounds and was very hard done by. I've never seen a doctor jump so quickly into a ring
Yes Khan did get somewhat exposed but so too did McCloskey. Terrible footwork, and his hand speed is awful! when he did throw back (the few times that he did) he looked slow and ponderous. If it wasn't for his very good upper body movement, he would not be very good at all. His awkwardness can only get him so far.
He looked exactly the same way in the Malignaggi fight at that point. And guess what, he didn't tire, and went to box his head off. I find it very amusing how McCloskey loses every minute of every one of those 6 rounds, was getting tagged more and more as they went on, but feels he would have got to him if he was allowed to continue.
Nah it would have still been one way traffic. Once Khan settled down, dusted away some nervous energy and got into his groove it would have just been the same pattern.
- Khan wasn't convincing, but he won every single round. - In terms of offense - Mccloskey was passive, and was happy to make Khan look bad, but wasn't offering to attack Khan - was he (or his attacks were very unconvincing)? - In fairness, if the cut didn't happen, Khan probably would have won every single round to a UD......Then got criticised for not being spectacular.
Khan was definitely tired and it might have something to do with the fact that he sacked is conditioner, Tony Ariza. It was mainly conditioning that got Khan through the Maidana fight. If his conditioning is not up to the standard of that fight then he is much more likely to get stopped. Khan missed alot of his shots against McCloskey too. And when he did land he wasn't hurting him. I know there was a moment in the 6th where it looked as though McCloskey was hurt but I think he just stumbled a bit. McCloskey improved marginally with each round and I think Khan was in for a serious test if the fight had continued. Unfortunately we can speculate all night about it, but the fact is McCloskey's been robbed of that opportunity and it's very unlikely that Khan's handlers will allow him anywhere near McCloskey again. Look for Khan to be brutally battered by Timothy Bradley in the summer.
:-patsch this is what i love about some boxing fans unless you outright dominate your opponent and look great in the process you are "exposed" please stfu
