Khan lacks real power at 140 to gain full respect, he needs to move upto 147

I don't see it really. Beating Hopkins was impressive, but both guys have good speed but no gameplan. It is that kind of style which gets caught with a big punch like Taylor did with Pavlik and Khan did earlier in his career with Prescott. Terry Norris who was great had a similar problem. Great handspeed but sometimes no gameplan, and then he would get stopped by someone like Simon Brown, whom he beat in the rematch when he fought with a gameplan.

he is too open, yet his handspeed is so great. If he just had the discipline and technical skills to match that handspeed. I agree with what you are saying. At times I saw Khan miss the right when Peterson would move his head to the left, and then do some pitty pat punches before there was a break. Had he used his jab hard instead of peppering it, he could get his opponent to think about his jab and then land the right. I did notice Khan and Peterson had similar arm length, but still Khan is not using his speed as effective.
Also one thing Khan did was put his gloves to the side of his head when Peterson would punch him on the ropes (even without Khan on the ropes a few times). All Peterson would do then is throw bodyshots (since they were there open to him, and finish with a headpunch like a high right hook. Khan has to work on all these things. It makes me wonder what is Roach doing for him? Doesn't he see these things? Can they change them at this stage? I do know that Hearns did change as he got older and held his hands up higher and become more economical, and so did Hagler. so fighters can change. But those are greats. It is up to Khan to see if he is great. I think he had the potential.

Move up and power diminishes. You say his chin might be better, maybe he should fight like Margarito.

He hasn't got the qualities to clear our boxing divisions. He is competent but overhyped.

His issue is neither weight nor power, he must work on ring intelligence. Peterson has created quite a nice little blueprint on how to completely shut down Amir's game, adding weight would only mean bigger guys like Berto and Ortiz chasing him dow. Amir has a lot of work to get done or he faces getting beat up everytime he steps up a level.

Well done for coming on GG,all the more that you're posting a balanced thread.
However,I always felt a move up was inevitable, even 154 in a few years, but it's looking very much like a double edged sword.
Always felt his power would move with him,but I'm starting to wonder if he's going to remain a powerhouse puncher at LW but nothing special north.I think he'll hang about at 140 longer than he planned now,at least to have a go at reversing Saturday.
I think the guys are right about his technique having stalled a bit, needs some work.
But there will be inevitable questions asked about Amir's place at the table, probably some of it uncalled for,but I think the jump may not be as smooth as I thought it once would.Do you really think he'll have more power at 147?

If he doesn't have power at 140, its doubtful he'll have much more power at 147. Even when guys move up and their power or chin increases, it's obvious that they've had decent traces of it in their lighter weight classes. Khan's power might increase slightly but I doubt he becomes a force of nature.

    Thanks about the thread. :good

Yes I feel Khan has very skinny legs which need some bulking up, with in turn should provide better balance and a stronger base to fire from.

I just feel for his size and age now 147 is more his natural weight, I say this at times he is also gasing to fast they could be signs of being tight at the weight.

Khan is a fit fighter and trains hard so he makes the weight, but that's not always the best for you, he could leaving too much in the gym coming down to 140.

  9. khan will have less power at 147 and after watching his last few fights i think when they put him him in with punchers like ortiz and berto hes in for some

I don't think Victor's chin can hold up to Khan at any weight.

Maybe sit down on his punches instead of smothering himself by jumping in like a ****ing idiot. 147 wont make **** all difference

I always feel that guys struggling to make weight are doing themselves a disservice. Khan could add a little pop if he fought at 147. Of course that will open new questions about his abilities to hold off bigger opponents and take their shots.
