He'd be wrong if he moved camp now!! He loses his unbeaten record in an unimaginable way then get's a fight with a legend like Barrera and then a world title shot!! No other promoter in the world could have dreamed a better outcome!! FW made it happen!! I'll say this, Were do you guys think Victor Ortiz will be in 2 fights time..:roll: If he leaves FW he's STUPID.. I think Roach is talking silly stuff in his ears!! I for one don't wanna see a Erik Morales fight..:verysad
Question Tony...... If your trainer and promoter had a fallout... and there had to be a split somewhere - where would your loyalties lie? I would be 100% with the trainer unless I was adamant that he was either a. in the wrong, or b. being an immature **** with the issue. My motto - knowing less about boxing than other sports that I am interested in.... is that anybody can promote you - you can even manage yourself, but a good fighter-trainer relationship is hard to come by.
Surely it depends largely on the status of the fighter? A more established fighter can afford more to side with his trainer because he will have plenty other promoters courting him. Whereas, someone not as well known would be better served staying with Warren as he could probably get bigger fights and / or greater exposure for them. Wasn't Nathan Cleverly in that position during the Calzaghe - Warren court case, and he ditched Enzo Calzaghe to stay with Warren?
Hmmm..... good question. Promoters are ten-a-penny IMO. There are far more guys that can 'promote' than are generally good trainers that can fit within your requirements. You can go to the States, Germany, wherever. They are all the same, out for themselves! I am sure guys like Kevin Maree and Anthony Farnell have had guys that are good fighters, that they cannot do a great deal with, whereas they will have some that turn up on the gym floor pretty limited that they do plenty with. Cleverly was in a similar position...... not sure what I would have done in his position - I cannot stand Enzo Calzaghe and don't rate him as a trainer, so would have sacked him anyway!
hmmm....guys this might just me being naive here, but I'll be *REALLY* disappointed in Khan if he leaves Frank Warren. Whether he likes it or not, Warren has built this kid from day 1 of his professional career. Not many promoters out there would or could manouver a world title match within 3 fights of being KTFO in 54 seconds. Not many promoters would be able to protect a fighter (irrespective of whether the fans agree with this or not) through to maturity while still maximising his broad appeal. When I say "appeal" - I'm thinking about Khan's virtual star status from the mainstream newspapers to Reebok endorsements to being a national ambassador for the NSPCC....etc etc. I take the view that if it's not broken, don't fix it. Khan shouldn't sell out Frank Warren. Being able to build a career in the US shouldn't be mutually exclusive with having Warren as a promoter. If anything, as another poster has mentioned, Khan should keep Warren for UK bouts and take on a US promoter for US fights (although i can't see the rationale for this - surely Warren can still setup huge fights in the US?). Now that i've put my neck on the line for abuse, I must say, please educate me on why i'm wrong - for the reasons above, I genuinly believe that ditching Warren will be a bad move for Khan.
I agree with you fully. Warren gets alot of stick from us, but for Khan he has done alot, and Khan should be thankfull to him. Did'nt he steal the Kotelnik fight from Golden Boy for Ortiz. Khan should stick with Warren for 2 more years at least.
