It's in the WBA rules, if the Interim fights the champion then its a 45% , 55% split. Check out the other instances of where it's happened and you'll see

This is direct from their website from when it first went to bidding.
    http://wbanews.com/artman/uploads/1/PURSE_BID-Super_Lightweight_2010_1.pdf

    DIVISION: SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT (140 Lbs.)
CONTENDERS: AMIR KHAN (UK) VS. MARCOS MAIDANA (ARG)
    (WBA CHAMPION) (INTERIM CHAMPION)
    MINIMUM AMOUNT: US$ 150,000.00
PURSE BID SPLIT: (55% WBA CHAMPION 45% INTERIM CHAMPION)

People say Maidana is gonna get 3x his normal payday anyway so he should just sign.. he would be throwing away 500k that is entitled to. If you were in the same situation you'd do the same as him, as a boxer you've got to make your money when you can, as you never know when itll all be over

There is no way out of this for Khan, he has to either has to accept less money or vacate.

Don't people see how poorly Khan is acting in this. HBO have given an offer which doesn't allow Khan to get what he wants, whilst paying Maidana a 45% purse, so he believes the outcome is that Maidana should give up his entitlement, giving him his million+ and screwing Maidana

so if maidana is entitled to 45%, and the wba have ordered a purse bid then either khan will accept and take the fight, or maidana will accept and take the fight, or neither will accept and take the fight.

lets see how it unfolds, i thought the 45-55 was only in the event of a non active champion?

its neither here nor there tho, if they're the rules then they're the rules.

i imagine both will sign, least i hope they do.

Question - what exactly is the deal being offered to Maidana?

The WBA have yet to speak but.. however if they order a purse bid I strongly doubt anyone is going to offer enough of a purse that when divided 45%/55%, gives Khan his GBP fight purse minimum gaurantee of 1.25million dollars. HBO have offered around 2 million for the whole event.

So effectively Khan earns less through fighting the interim, so in facing Ortiz he'd earn more. However... if he wants to keep his belt he has to face Maidana.

If it does happen, it'll happen because Maidana is given concessions by GBP to accept the lower sum, or Khan accepts less money. After this much negotations I think by now it's clear that the first isn't going to happen. So Khan will either have to accept less or vacate

It's "rumoured" that he's been offered 800-850k, wheras his 45% entitles him to 1 million, based on Khan's GBP minimum purse gaurantee of 1.25million

Your fighting the champ and the guy thats going to bring in 85% + of the revenue.... understand when you should accept the smaller piece of the pie

Why is Khan going to bring in 85% of the revenue, Khan's only had one fight in the U.S. Maidana has had multiple

Khan is the champ and if the fight is in the UK, who do you think the fans are going to see? Not many Brits know who Maidana is!!

I think that Maidana knows that once Khan beats him, his role as one of the top fighters in the 140 division is going to slip and the big pay days will fade away. He wants the most amount of money possible (which apparently he is being offered his biggest pay day) so just accept the terms. If (and based on his last performace thats a big IF) Maidana can beat Khan than that will open up the division for him. He needs to take the risk now in the hope that he will get the big rewards in the future.

    No.

The current proposal has the fight occuring in the US as HBO offered a significantly lower sum for a UK fight. And under Khan's deal with GBP he directly takes all UK PPV or Television cash.

So basically it's down to the U.S. public. I honestly don't believe that to the average U.S boxing fan Khan after one fight is a bigger name than Maidana, certaintly not 85%-15%!. Maybe someone from that country could shed some light on whether this is so
