Khan inspired an entire new generation and audience with his achievements. So what? Thats good for the sport. And its not just muslims that support him.

I know plenty plenty of people who support khan who are neither muslim nor pakistani. Thats just total ignorance

there have been plenty of muslim boxers. I guarantee you would never say this to any of their fans. So why say it against khan??

Some Muslim boxers: Khan, Ali, Eubank, Naseem hamed, ibragimov, rahman, danny williams. Do they only have a fan base coz they are muslim?

 

Maidana only gets 45% of the winning pursebid, not 45% of the total revenue. Eg. GBP have highest bid of 200,000, Maidana gets 90,000. Nothing to stop them still paying Khan 1.25 million.

 

How would you feel if that question is sprung on you everytime you defend Khan?

The WBA have no right ordering a match between the two when you consider what they are doing in the Featherweight division. They want to add a "unified super champion" which will give them a ludicrus 3 champions at the weight.

 

Why? Khan is the draw wherever the fight is. He's arguably the biggest money-maker in the division and he's expected to split with 45% of his purse? Maidana would be lucky to get 30 on the basis that it looks likely to be at the O2 and Khan is the only attraction there.

I'd like to see Khan fight Maidana, but if he drops the belt and looks for bigger money elsewhere, I can understand from his point of view. I don't believe he's ducking him, I just beleive he wants what he feels he deserves. Least we forget Maidana is the one with the history of turning down big fights, not Khan.

 

You expect the WBA to adhere to their own rules? If they did that Maidana wouldn't even be interim champion...

 

Finally, someone talking sense on here.

Those that claim Khan is being backed into a corner etc, don't really have an understanding of what's going on. GBP are treating Khan as a seperate entity, as they have a seperate agreement with him in which he's guaranteed a certain amount (this has been in place looooooong before Maidana came into the picture). GPB will honour this agreement, which means Khan will be paid whatever he's been promised.

Maidana on the other hand, is being the awkward ****. If he's asking for a fixed 1 million number, then he's making things tricky for everyone. GBP who already have that deal in place with Khan, really can't afford to meet Maidana's excessive demands. This fight can't possibly generate the money that's needed to please everyone.

If it goes to purse bids, and GBP put in the number like Cobbler has just said, then Maidana will still be given that 45%, but a very low one . To which Maidana will then probably walk away from (let's hope he doesn't).

 

Maidana would be the "champion" and Khan "Super champion".
Thats what they did with John and Gamboa.
