erm he was a media figure, but by STAR you need to be the best at what you do (unless you're Cheryl Cole) Khan could barely defend himself, yet we were being told that this kid was the next Ali, and he was calling out Pac and May.

Is Audley Harrison a star because he won gold? thats my point. the pros are like a different sport, and nay trainer/fighter will tell you that

Tip of the hat to Khan. Mature act.

Fake or real I wish more ppl would realize this on ESB. At the end of the day all fighters take part in the sport we love. This over the hate by some posters hurts boxing, nothing more.

    Your confusing yourself with semantics.

I suggest you look up the definition of the word 'star'.

You can be a star without being a 10 time champion you know.

no, you can't. you're saying he was a star not a superstar... he was neither, he was a 17 yr old boy entering a mans world, I dont give a **** how many movie premiers or newspaper covers he made, he was never a star until he became relevant to the world boxing scene, and everyone knew it except him and his then-blind fans.

ricky hatton was never a star when he was defending the WBU title over and over again, but his fans at the time would never tell you that, no, ricky was a world champion boxer and super star defending his world title in front of the world. ricky, like khan, never became a "star" until they actually became relevant and good at what they did, wether they were on the front page of the daily mirror or not.

see, that was the problem, even though he was a "star" in your mind, he got knocked out on his PPV debut in one minute. you're either a media star or a star in you profession, you can't be both at that stage, when he got away from all those idiots telling him he was the bees knees, he actually started living up to his potential.

hes a star now, he was NEVER a star then.

Well that's what I meant. He was a renowned "media figure". He was a star in the media's eyes, hence why he would be interviewed more than others.

That's the kind of imitation that I like to see. Soundness in the ring and soundness outside of it.

Most people don't realise that boxers are generally some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. All the pro boxers that I've known have been among the most reliable pals I've had. Obviously there are exceptions, but it's a sport that teaches discipline, respect and honour.

It's hard to compare this Khan with the Khan of five years ago. That's what the humility and hardship of being a pro can do to a person's character.

what the **** are you face-palming for? khan was a celebrity..NOT a star, im aware of what you mean, but in boxing terms, he was NOT a star until he became a world famous world champion.
